Important Safeguards

Before First Use

Before using your coffee maker for the first time, it is recommended to clean all removable parts and run a brewing cycle with water only.

  1. Wash the carafe, lid, and reusable filter in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  2. Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water up to the 12-cup mark.
  3. Place the reusable filter into the filter basket. Do not add coffee grounds.
  4. Place the carafe with its lid on the warming plate.
  5. Plug the coffee maker into a standard electrical outlet.
  6. Press the Brew/Off button to start a brewing cycle.
  7. Allow the cycle to complete. Discard the water from the carafe.
  8. Repeat this process once more to ensure the unit is thoroughly cleaned.

Setup and Basic Operation

Setting the Clock:

  1. Plug in the coffee maker. The display will show "12:00 AM" or flash.
  2. Press the "Clock" button.
  3. Use the "+" and "-" buttons to set the current hour. Pay attention to AM/PM indicator.
  4. Press "Clock" again to confirm the hour.
  5. Use the "+" and "-" buttons to set the current minute.
  6. Press "Clock" one last time to confirm the minute and set the clock.

Brewing Coffee:

  1. Open the lid and fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water to your desired level (up to 12 cups).
  2. Place the reusable gold-tone filter into the filter basket.
  3. Add your desired amount of ground coffee to the filter. A general guideline is one tablespoon of coffee per cup.
  4. Close the lid securely.
  5. Ensure the empty carafe with its lid is properly seated on the warming plate.
  6. Press the "Brew/Off" button to start brewing. The indicator light will illuminate.
  7. The coffee maker will automatically turn off after the brewing cycle and the Keep Warm period (up to 4 hours).

Adjusting Brew Strength:

This coffee maker offers Regular, Gourmet, and Bold brew strength options.

  1. Before starting a brew cycle, press the "Strength" button repeatedly until your desired strength (Regular, Gourmet, or Bold) is displayed.
  2. Proceed with brewing as described above.

1-4 Cup Mode for Small Servings:

For brewing smaller quantities (1-4 cups), activate the 1-4 cup mode to ensure optimal flavor extraction.

  1. After adding water and coffee grounds, press the "1-4 Cup" button. An indicator light will confirm activation.
  2. Then, press the "Brew/Off" button to start brewing.

Setting the 24-Hour Programmable Timer:

Program your coffee maker to start brewing at a specific time within a 24-hour period.

  1. Ensure the current time is set correctly (see "Setting the Clock").
  2. Prepare the coffee maker with water and coffee grounds as you would for a regular brew.
  3. Press the "Program" button. The display will show "PROG" and flash.
  4. Use the "+" and "-" buttons to set your desired brew start time (hour). Observe the AM/PM indicator.
  5. Press "Program" again to confirm the hour.
  6. Use the "+" and "-" buttons to set the desired brew start time (minute).
  7. Press "Program" one last time to confirm the minute and activate the program. The "PROG" indicator will remain lit.
  8. The coffee maker will automatically start brewing at the set time.

Pause & Serve Function:

This feature allows you to pour a cup of coffee before the entire brewing cycle is complete.

  • During a brewing cycle, you can remove the carafe from the warming plate for up to 20 seconds.
  • The brewing will pause automatically.
  • Return the carafe to the warming plate within 20 seconds to resume brewing and prevent overflow.

Keep Warm Function:

After brewing, the warming plate will keep your coffee hot for up to 4 hours.

  • The Keep Warm function activates automatically after brewing.
  • The coffee maker will automatically shut off after 4 hours.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and taste.

Daily Cleaning:

  1. Always unplug the coffee maker before cleaning and allow it to cool completely.
  2. Discard used coffee grounds and rinse the reusable filter.
  3. Wash the carafe, carafe lid, and reusable filter in warm, soapy water. These parts are also dishwasher-safe (top rack recommended).
  4. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  5. Do not immerse the coffee maker unit, cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.

Descaling (Cleaning Cycle):

Mineral deposits from water can build up over time and affect coffee taste and brewing performance. The coffee maker has a "Clean-auto reminder" and a dedicated cleaning cycle.

  1. When the "Clean" indicator light illuminates, it's time to descale.
  2. Fill the water reservoir with a mixture of 1 part white vinegar and 2 parts cold water. For example, 2 cups of vinegar and 4 cups of water.
  3. Place the empty carafe with its lid on the warming plate.
  4. Press the "Clean" button. The indicator light will flash, and the cleaning cycle will begin.
  5. Allow the cycle to complete (approximately 45-60 minutes). The unit will automatically shut off.
  6. Discard the vinegar solution from the carafe.
  7. Run 2-3 full brewing cycles with fresh, cold water only to rinse out any remaining vinegar taste.
