  2. Terminal Check: Connect the test leads to the 'L' (Line) and 'E' (Earth) terminals. Short-circuit the test leads together. Turn the hand crank slowly clockwise. The pointer should slide to the left and stop at the '0' position, confirming lead continuity.

6. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to perform an insulation resistance measurement:

  1. Prepare the Circuit: Ensure the circuit or equipment to be tested is completely de-energized and safely isolated from all power sources. Discharge any stored energy.
  2. Connect Test Leads: Connect the test leads from the ZC25-4 tester to the points on the circuit where insulation resistance is to be measured. Typically, one lead connects to the conductor and the other to the earth ground or another conductor.
  3. Generate Test Voltage: Turn the hand crank clockwise at a steady speed (approximately 120 revolutions per minute) to generate the 1000V test voltage. Maintain a consistent speed throughout the measurement.
  4. Read Measurement: Observe the pointer on the analog dial. Once the pointer stabilizes, read the insulation resistance value in Megohms (MΩ).
  5. Disconnect: After taking the reading, stop cranking and disconnect the test leads from the circuit.

6.1 Grounding Considerations

For accurate measurements, ensure proper grounding. Connect the 'E' (Earth) terminal to a reliable ground point. When measuring between two conductors, ensure the protective ring (if applicable) is properly utilized to minimize surface leakage current interference.

  • No Pointer Movement: Ensure the hand crank is being turned at a sufficient and consistent speed. Check for any physical obstructions to the crank mechanism.
  • Inaccurate Readings: Verify that the test leads are securely connected and not damaged. Ensure proper grounding. Re-perform the initial checks described in Section 5.
  • Intermittent Readings: Check for loose connections at the terminals or within the test leads.
