1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the PhoenixCrest 2-Ton Folding Hydraulic Engine Hoist. This heavy-duty shop crane is designed for safe and efficient lifting and positioning of engines, transmissions, and other heavy components in automotive repair, maintenance, and industrial applications. Its robust construction, hydraulic lifting mechanism, and foldable design make it a versatile and space-saving tool for any garage or workshop. Please read this manual thoroughly before assembly or operation to ensure safe and proper use of the equipment.
2. Safety Information
WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in serious injury or property damage.
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and gloves.
- Ensure the hoist is on a level, stable, and non-slip surface before operation.
- Do not exceed the rated lifting capacity of 2 tons (4,400 lbs). Refer to the telescopic boom settings for specific capacities at different extensions.
- Never work under a load supported only by the hoist. Always use appropriate jack stands or other support devices.
- Keep hands and feet clear of moving parts and pinch points during operation.
- Inspect the hoist for damage, wear, or loose components before each use. Do not use if damaged.
- Ensure all bolts and fasteners are securely tightened before and during use.
- Do not modify the hoist in any way. Use only original replacement parts.
- Keep children and unauthorized personnel away from the work area.
- Lower loads slowly and with control.
- Do not use the hoist for purposes other than its intended use.
3. Package Contents

4. Assembly Instructions
Assembly requires basic hand tools (not included). It is recommended to have two people for assembly due to the weight and size of some components.
- Attach Casters: Secure the six 360° swivel casters to the leg assemblies using the provided hardware. Ensure they are tightly fastened for stable movement.
- Assemble Leg Frame: Connect the two main leg sections to the central vertical support using the appropriate bolts and nuts.
- Install Vertical Mast: Attach the vertical mast to the leg frame.
- Mount Hydraulic Ram: Secure the hydraulic ram to the vertical mast and the lower support bracket. Ensure the release valve is accessible.
- Attach Telescopic Boom: Connect the telescopic boom to the top of the vertical mast. Insert the locking pin to secure it.
- Attach Lifting Chain: Secure the lifting chain with the hook to the end of the telescopic boom.
- Final Check: Verify all bolts and connections are secure. Test the hydraulic ram by pumping the handle to raise the boom and slowly opening the release valve to lower it.
5. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your engine hoist.
5.1 Preparing for Lift
- Position the hoist on a firm, level surface near the object to be lifted.
- Ensure the area is clear of obstructions and personnel.
- Close the hydraulic release valve by turning it clockwise until snug. Do not overtighten.
5.2 Adjusting the Telescopic Boom
The telescopic boom offers four positions for varying reach and lifting capacities. Adjust the boom length by removing the locking pin, extending or retracting the boom to the desired position (0.5T, 1T, 1.5T, or 2T), and reinserting the locking pin securely. Always ensure the pin passes through both boom sections.

Figure 5.1: Multi-Level Adjustment. This image illustrates the telescopic boom's adjustable settings, indicating how the lifting capacity changes with the boom's extension. The settings are clearly marked for 2 tons, 1.5 tons, 1 ton, and 0.5 tons.
5.3 Lifting the Load
- Attach the lifting chain hook securely to the engine or component. Ensure the load is balanced. An engine leveler (not included) is recommended for optimal balance.
- Pump the hydraulic handle to slowly raise the boom and lift the load. Lift only high enough to clear obstacles.
- Once the load is lifted, carefully maneuver the hoist using the swivel casters. Avoid sudden movements.

Figure 5.2: Multi-Purpose Tool in Use. This image shows the engine hoist actively lifting an engine from a vehicle in a workshop environment, demonstrating its primary function for engine removal and installation.
5.4 Lowering the Load
- Ensure the destination area for the load is clear and prepared.
- Slowly turn the hydraulic release valve counter-clockwise to gradually lower the boom and the load.
- Once the load is fully supported by its destination (e.g., engine stand, vehicle mounts), detach the lifting chain.
6. Folding and Storage
The PhoenixCrest engine hoist features a foldable design for compact storage.
- Ensure the hoist is empty and the boom is fully retracted and lowered.
- Remove any locking pins or bolts securing the legs in the extended position.
- Fold the legs inward towards the central mast. Secure them with the designated pins or latches.
- The hoist can now be stored upright in a compact space.

7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your hoist.
- Lubrication: Periodically lubricate all pivot points and moving parts with a general-purpose grease.
- Hydraulic Fluid: Check the hydraulic fluid level regularly. If low, refill with a high-quality hydraulic jack oil. Do not use brake fluid or other non-specified fluids.
- Cleaning: Keep the hoist clean and free of dirt, grease, and debris. The rust-resistant powder-coated finish can be wiped down with a damp cloth.
- Inspection: Before each use, inspect for loose bolts, damaged welds, bent components, or signs of wear on the chain and hook.
- Storage: Store the hoist in a dry, protected area when not in use to prevent corrosion.
8. Troubleshooting
Refer to this section for common issues and their solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Hoist does not lift | Hydraulic release valve open; Low hydraulic fluid; Air in hydraulic system | Close release valve; Check/refill fluid; Bleed air from system (refer to hydraulic ram instructions) |
| Hoist lifts slowly or erratically | Low hydraulic fluid; Air in hydraulic system; Overload | Check/refill fluid; Bleed air from system; Reduce load (do not exceed capacity) |
| Hoist leaks hydraulic fluid | Loose fittings; Damaged seals | Tighten fittings; Contact customer support for seal replacement |
| Boom does not extend/retract smoothly | Lack of lubrication; Bent boom section | Lubricate sliding surfaces; Inspect for damage, replace if bent |
