1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Koo KABOOM KOTARO 058 RC Drone. This drone is equipped with two cameras, allowing for diverse aerial photography and video recording directly to your smartphone. It features emergency take-off and landing, gyroscopic control for optimized speed, and optical flow positioning with altitude hold for stable flight and 360-degree maneuvers. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the drone to ensure safe and correct usage.

2. Safety Information

  • Always operate the drone in open areas, away from people, animals, buildings, and obstacles.
  • Do not fly in strong winds or adverse weather conditions.
  • Ensure the drone battery is fully charged and the remote control batteries are fresh before each flight.
  • Keep fingers and loose clothing away from rotating propellers.
  • Do not modify or disassemble the drone or its components.
  • Adhere to local regulations regarding drone operation.
  • Adult supervision is recommended for younger users.

4. Component Identification

4.1 Drone Overview

  • Propellers: Four rotating blades for lift and propulsion.
  • Motor Arms: Foldable arms holding the motors and propellers.

4.2 Remote Control Overview

  • Left Joystick: Controls throttle (up/down) and yaw (rotate left/right).
  • Right Joystick: Controls pitch (forward/backward) and roll (left/right).
  • One-Key Take-off/Landing Button: Initiates automatic take-off or landing.
  • Speed Switch Button: Toggles between different flight speeds.
  • Photo/Video Button: Captures images or starts/stops video recording.
  • Power Button: Turns the remote control on/off.
  • Phone Holder: For mounting a smartphone (if applicable).

5. Setup

5.1 Charging the Drone Battery

  1. Connect the drone battery to the USB charging cable.
  2. Plug the USB cable into a 5V/1A USB power adapter (not included).
  3. The indicator light on the USB cable will show charging status (e.g., red for charging, off for fully charged).
  4. Charging typically takes approximately 60-90 minutes. Do not overcharge.

5.2 Installing Remote Control Batteries

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the remote control.
  2. Insert 3x AAA batteries (not included) according to the polarity markings.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

5.3 Unfolding the Drone

  1. Gently unfold the four motor arms until they click into place. Ensure all arms are fully extended.

5.4 Propeller Installation (if required)

If propellers are not pre-installed or need replacement:

  1. Match the propellers with the corresponding motor shafts (usually marked A and B).
  2. Press the propeller firmly onto the motor shaft until it is secure.
  3. Ensure propeller guards are also securely attached if desired.

5.5 App Installation and Connection

To utilize the dual camera features and view live footage:

  1. Scan the QR code provided in the quick start guide (or search for the specific app name, e.g., "KOTARO Drone" app) on your smartphone.
  2. Install the app.
  3. Turn on the drone.
  4. Go to your phone's Wi-Fi settings and connect to the drone's Wi-Fi network (e.g., "KOTARO-058-XXXXXX").
  5. Open the installed app. You should see the live camera feed.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Pairing the Drone and Remote Control

  1. Place the drone on a flat, level surface.
  2. Press the power button on the drone to turn it on. The drone's indicator lights will flash.
  3. Press the power button on the remote control to turn it on. The remote's indicator light will flash.
  4. Push the left joystick (throttle) all the way up, then all the way down. The drone and remote indicator lights will become solid, indicating successful pairing.

6.2 Calibrating the Gyroscope

After pairing, it is recommended to calibrate the gyroscope for stable flight:

  • With the drone on a flat surface, push both joysticks down and to the bottom-right corners simultaneously for a few seconds.
  • The drone's lights will flash rapidly and then become solid, indicating successful calibration.

6.3 Take-off and Landing

  • Manual Take-off: After pairing and calibration, push both joysticks to the bottom-left and bottom-right corners (or as indicated in quick start guide) to unlock the motors. Then, slowly push the left joystick (throttle) up to take off.
  • One-Key Take-off: Press the dedicated One-Key Take-off button on the remote control. The drone will automatically ascend to a stable hovering height.
  • One-Key Landing: Press the dedicated One-Key Landing button. The drone will automatically descend and land gently.
  • Emergency Stop: In an emergency, press and hold the One-Key Landing button for 3 seconds to immediately stop the motors. Use with caution as this will cause the drone to drop.

6.4 Flight Controls

  • Left Joystick (Throttle/Yaw):
    • Push up/down: Increase/decrease altitude.
    • Push left/right: Rotate drone left/right (yaw).
  • Right Joystick (Pitch/Roll):
    • Push up/down: Fly forward/backward (pitch).
    • Push left/right: Fly left/right (roll).
  • Speed Switch: Press the speed button to cycle through low, medium, and high-speed modes.
  • 360-Degree Maneuvers: While hovering, press the 360-degree flip button (refer to remote diagram for exact button) and then push the right joystick in the desired flip direction. Ensure sufficient altitude.

6.5 Camera Operation

With the app connected:

  • Take Photo: Press the Photo button on the remote or tap the camera icon in the app.
  • Record Video: Press the Video button on the remote or tap the video icon in the app to start/stop recording.
  • Switch Cameras: The app interface will typically have an option to switch between the two onboard cameras.
  • View Media: Photos and videos are saved to your smartphone's gallery via the app.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the drone and remote control. Do not use water or solvents.
  • Propeller Replacement: If a propeller is damaged, carefully remove it and replace it with a new one, ensuring the correct 'A' or 'B' type is used for the corresponding motor.
  • Battery Care: Store the drone battery in a cool, dry place. Do not leave it fully charged or fully discharged for extended periods.
  • Storage: When not in use, fold the drone arms and store it in its original packaging or a protective case.

8. Troubleshooting
