3. Setup
3.1 Mounting the Reel
Securely attach the reel to your fishing rod's reel seat. Ensure the reel foot is firmly seated and the locking mechanism is tightened to prevent movement during casting and retrieval.

3.2 Spooling Fishing Line
- Attach the fishing line to the reel spool using an arbor knot or similar secure knot.
- Keep tension on the line as you wind it onto the spool. Ensure the line lays evenly across the spool.
- Fill the spool to approximately 1/8 inch (3mm) from the rim. Overfilling can lead to tangles and backlashes.
3.3 Adjusting Cast Control
The Beast 200 features an Infini Brake System. This system combines a centrifugal brake and a magnetic brake for precise casting control. Adjustments should be made based on lure weight and wind conditions.
- Centrifugal Brake: Located under the sideplate, these pins can be engaged or disengaged. More pins engaged provide more braking force, suitable for heavier lures or windy conditions.
- Magnetic Brake: Adjusted via an external dial, this controls the magnetic force applied to the spool. Higher settings provide more braking, reducing backlash.
Start with higher brake settings and gradually reduce them as you become more comfortable with casting to achieve maximum distance.
4. Operating the Reel
4.1 Casting
- Press the thumb bar to disengage the spool.
- Use your thumb to lightly feather the spool to prevent line from coming off prematurely.
- Make your cast. As the lure flies, continue to feather the spool with your thumb to control line release and prevent backlash.
- Just before the lure hits the water, stop the spool with your thumb to prevent overruns.

4.2 Retrieving
Turn the handle to engage the spool and retrieve your line. The 7.3:1 gear ratio allows for fast line recovery, bringing in 32 inches (80cm) of line per crank. Maintain a steady retrieve speed appropriate for your lure and fishing technique.
4.3 Drag Adjustment
The Power Stack Carbon Matrix Drag System provides smooth and powerful drag. The drag star is located next to the handle. Turn it clockwise to increase drag tension and counter-clockwise to decrease it. Adjust the drag to approximately one-third of your line's breaking strength. The drag clicker provides audible feedback during adjustments and when line is being pulled.

5. Maintenance
5.1 After Each Use
- Rinse the reel with fresh water to remove salt, dirt, and debris. Do not submerge the reel.
- Wipe the reel dry with a soft cloth.
- Loosen the drag completely before storing to prolong the life of the drag washers.
5.2 Periodic Lubrication
Apply a small amount of high-quality reel oil to moving parts such as the handle knobs, spool shaft, and level wind mechanism. Use reel grease on gears if performing a deeper service. Refer to specialized reel maintenance guides for detailed lubrication points.
5.3 Storage
Store your reel in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Consider using a reel cover to protect it from dust and scratches.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Backlash / Bird's Nest
- Cause: Insufficient thumb control, cast control set too low, or overfilling the spool.
- Solution: Increase cast control settings (both magnetic and centrifugal brakes). Practice thumb control during casting. Ensure the spool is not overfilled.
6.2 Stiff or Grinding Retrieve
- Cause: Dirt or debris in gears, lack of lubrication, or internal damage.
- Solution: Clean the reel thoroughly. Apply appropriate reel oil and grease. If the issue persists, professional service may be required.
6.3 Drag Slipping or Inconsistent
- Cause: Drag washers are dry, worn, or contaminated.
- Solution: Inspect drag washers. Clean or replace if necessary. Ensure drag is not overtightened during storage.
