3.1.2 Battery Power

For portable use, the unit requires four (4) D-cell (UM1) batteries (not included). Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit and insert the batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment. Close the cover securely.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 General Operation

  • Power On/Off: Use the power switch or mode selector to turn the unit on or off.

4.2 Cassette Player/Recorder

To play a cassette, open the cassette compartment, insert the tape, and press the Play button. To record, ensure a blank tape is inserted and press the Record button while playing audio from the radio or using the built-in microphone.

  • Inserting a Cassette: Press the EJECT button to open the cassette compartment. Insert a cassette tape with the open edge facing upwards. Close the compartment firmly.
  • Playing a Cassette: Select the 'TAPE' mode. Press the PLAY button.
  • Stopping Playback: Press the STOP button.
  • Fast Forward/Rewind: Press the FF (Fast Forward) or REW (Rewind) buttons. Press STOP to disengage.
  • Recording: Ensure a blank cassette is inserted. Select the desired input source (e.g., 'RADIO' or use the built-in microphone). Press the RECORD button (this will also engage PLAY simultaneously). Press STOP to end recording.

4.3 Radio Operation (AM/FM/SW)

  • Selecting Radio Mode: Set the mode selector to 'RADIO'.
  • Selecting Band: Use the AM/FM/SW switch to choose your desired radio band.
  • Tuning: Rotate the TUNING knob to scan for radio stations. The clear scale dial will indicate the frequency.
  • Antenna Adjustment: Extend and adjust the retractable antenna for optimal FM/SW reception. For AM reception, rotate the unit for best signal.

4.4 Bluetooth Mode

  • Activating Bluetooth: Set the mode selector to 'BT'. The unit will enter pairing mode, indicated by an audible prompt or flashing indicator.
  • Pairing: On your Bluetooth-enabled device (e.g., smartphone), search for available Bluetooth devices and select 'BJL-659'. Once paired, you will hear a confirmation sound.
  • Playing Audio: Start playing audio on your paired device. The sound will be transmitted to the BJL-659.

4.5 USB/SD Playback

  • Inserting Media: Insert a USB flash drive into the USB port or an SD card into the SD card slot.
