4. Setup and Installation

Before starting, ensure you have the necessary tools: measuring tape, pencil, drill, screwdriver, level, and safety glasses.

4.1. Prepare the Opening

  1. Measure the width and height of your door opening. Ensure it is square and plumb.
  2. Clear any obstructions from the opening.

4.2. Install the Track

  1. Position the 60-inch track inside the top of the door frame, ensuring it is centered.
  2. Use a level to ensure the track is perfectly horizontal.
  3. Mark the screw hole locations with a pencil.
  4. Drill pilot holes at the marked locations.
  5. Secure the track to the door frame using the provided screws.

4.3. Attach Hinges to Doors

This kit is suitable for four doors. For each pair of bi-fold doors:

  1. Lay two door panels flat on a clean, protected surface.
  2. Align the 3.5-inch hinges between the two door panels. Typically, one hinge is placed near the top, one in the middle, and one near the bottom.
  3. Mark and drill pilot holes for the hinge screws.
  4. Secure the hinges to both door panels using the provided screws.

4.4. Install Pivots and Rollers

  1. Install the top pivot bracket into the top edge of the door panel that will be fixed to the frame.
  2. Install the bottom pivot bracket into the bottom edge of the same door panel.
  3. Install the 4-wheel ball bearing rollers into the top edge of the other door panel (the one that will slide along the track).

4.5. Hang the Doors

  1. Insert the bottom pivot into its floor-mounted bracket.
  2. Compress the top pivot and insert it into the top track pivot bracket.
  3. Guide the rollers into the track.
  4. Adjust the pivots to ensure the doors are plumb and operate smoothly. Use the provided wrench for adjustments.

5. Operating Instructions

To open the bi-fold doors, gently pull the door panel that is not fixed by the pivots. The rollers will guide the door along the track, allowing it to fold. To close, push the door panel back into its closed position. Ensure no obstructions are in the path of the folding doors.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and smooth operation of your bi-fold door hardware kit.

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe down the track and rollers with a clean, damp cloth to remove dust and debris. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Lubrication: Apply a silicone-based lubricant to the track and roller bearings every 6-12 months, or as needed, to maintain smooth operation. Do not use oil-based lubricants as they can attract dirt.
  • Inspection: Regularly check all screws and fasteners for tightness. Tighten any loose components. Inspect hinges, pivots, and rollers for signs of wear or damage. Replace worn parts as necessary.
