Introduction

The Kensington KB435 EQ Rechargeable Multi-Device Compact Keyboard is designed for professionals requiring high productivity. It features quiet and responsive scissor-switch keys for a comfortable typing experience. This keyboard supports seamless wireless switching between up to four devices using three Bluetooth® 5.4 connections and one 2.4GHz USB receiver. Users can customize workflows with 15 programmable keys, a dedicated Copilot AI key (Windows only), and Function Lock. The integrated 500mAh rechargeable battery provides up to 3 months of use on a single charge. LED indicators provide status for Caps Lock and battery life. The outer case of this keyboard is made with 42% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, and the packaging is FSC® certified. Optional Kensington Konnect™ software is available for advanced customization.

Setup

Charging the Keyboard

Before initial use, fully charge the keyboard using the provided USB-C to USB-A cable. Connect the USB-C end to the keyboard's charging port and the USB-A end to a powered USB port on your computer or a USB wall adapter. The battery LED indicator will show charging status and turn off when fully charged. A full charge can last up to 3 months, depending on usage.

Connecting via 2.4GHz USB Receiver

  1. Locate the 2.4GHz USB-A wireless receiver. It may be stored in a compartment on the keyboard.
  2. Plug the USB receiver into an available USB-A port on your computer.
  3. Turn on the keyboard. The keyboard should automatically connect to the receiver.
  4. The connection is secured with 128-bit AES encryption and has a range of up to 10 meters.

Connecting via Bluetooth

The keyboard supports up to three Bluetooth 5.4 connections.

  1. Turn on the keyboard.
  2. Press and hold one of the Bluetooth channel keys (e.g., Fn + 1, Fn + 2, or Fn + 3) for 3-5 seconds until the corresponding LED indicator flashes rapidly. This indicates pairing mode.
  3. On your device (computer, tablet, smartphone), go to Bluetooth settings and search for new devices.
  4. Select "Kensington KB435" from the list of available devices.
  5. Follow any on-screen prompts to complete the pairing process. The LED will stop flashing and remain solid for a few seconds, then turn off, indicating a successful connection.
  6. Repeat these steps for additional Bluetooth devices using different Bluetooth channel keys.

Operating Instructions

Multi-Device Switching

To switch between connected devices, simply press the corresponding channel key:

  • Fn + 1: Switch to Bluetooth Device 1
  • Fn + 2: Switch to Bluetooth Device 2
  • Fn + 3: Switch to Bluetooth Device 3
  • Fn + 4: Switch to 2.4GHz USB Receiver Device

Programmable Keys and Function Lock

The keyboard features 15 programmable keys (F1-F12, Esc, Delete, Home) and a Function Lock feature. These keys can be customized to perform specific actions or macros, enhancing workflow efficiency.

  • Function Lock: Press the Fn key to toggle between standard F-key functions and multimedia/shortcut functions. When Function Lock is active, the F-keys will perform their secondary functions directly without needing to press Fn.
  • Programming Keys: Utilize the optional Kensington Konnect™ software to assign custom functions, macros, or shortcuts to the programmable keys.

Copilot AI Key

The dedicated Copilot AI key provides quick access to the Copilot AI feature. This key is functional on Windows operating systems only.

LED Indicators

The keyboard includes LED indicators for:

  • Caps Lock: Illuminates when Caps Lock is active.

  • Battery Life: Indicates battery status, typically flashing when low and solid during charging.

Maintenance

Cleaning

To clean the keyboard, gently wipe the surface with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or excessive moisture, as these can damage the keyboard. Ensure the keyboard is powered off before cleaning.

Battery Care

To maximize battery life and performance:

  • Avoid exposing the keyboard to extreme temperatures.
  • Charge the keyboard regularly, especially when the low battery indicator appears.
  • If storing the keyboard for an extended period, ensure it is partially charged (around 50%) to prevent deep discharge.

Troubleshooting

Keyboard Not Responding

  • Check Battery: Ensure the keyboard is charged. Connect it to a power source using the USB-C cable.
  • Power On: Verify the keyboard is powered on.
  • Connection Mode: Ensure you are on the correct connection channel (Bluetooth 1, 2, 3, or 2.4GHz USB).

Bluetooth Connection Issues

  • Re-pair Device: Remove the keyboard from your device's Bluetooth list and attempt to re-pair it.
  • Device Compatibility: Ensure your device supports Bluetooth 5.4 or earlier versions compatible with the keyboard.
  • Interference: Move away from other wireless devices that might cause interference.

2.4GHz USB Receiver Issues

  • USB Port: Try plugging the receiver into a different USB-A port on your computer.
  • Proximity: Ensure the keyboard is within the 10-meter range of the receiver.

Keys Not Functioning Correctly

  • Clean Keys: Check for any debris under the keys and clean as per maintenance instructions.
  • Software Interference: If using Kensington Konnect software, ensure settings are correct or try resetting to default.
