5. Setup

5.1 Charging the Battery

The QZ-S is equipped with a built-in 1000mAh lithium battery. To charge:

  1. Connect the included USB to Type-C cable to the Type-C charging port (3) on the trigger.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to a standard USB power adapter (not included).
  3. Charging time is approximately 2.5 hours. The battery level will be displayed on the screen.

5.2 Mounting to Camera

To mount the QZ-S to your camera's hot shoe:

  1. Slide the hot shoe contact pins (8) of the QZ-S into your camera's hot shoe.
  2. Secure the trigger by sliding the quick release fixing buckle (7) until it locks firmly in place.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

  • Power On: Long press the power button (2) to turn on the device.
  • Power Off: Long press the power button (2) again to turn off the device.
  • The device will automatically shut down after prolonged inactivity. Press the power button to restart.
  • To force shutdown: Press and hold the power button (2) and the manual flash trigger button (4) simultaneously.

6.2 Touchscreen Controls

The QZ-S features an OLED touchscreen for intuitive control.

  • Basic Operation: Swipe or tap on the screen to access and set functions.
  • Page Lock: To prevent accidental touches during shooting, long press the flash trigger button (4) for 2 seconds or tap the lock icon on the screen to lock/unlock.
  • Adjust Screen Brightness: Swipe down on the screen to access settings. Tap the brightness icon and slide to adjust.
  • Access Menu: Swipe down on the screen to access settings and tap 'Menu' to open the main menu.

6.3 Flash Modes

The QZ-S supports various flash modes for different shooting requirements.

  • TTL (Through-The-Lens) Mode: Automatic flash exposure.
  • M (Manual) Mode: Manually set flash output from 1/256 to 1/1.
  • TCM (TTL Converted to Manual) Mode: Converts TTL shooting values to M output values, offering a balance between automation and manual control.
  • Strobe Mode: For multiple flashes during a single exposure.

To switch modes, short press the mode switch button (5) or tap the mode icon on the screen.

6.4 2.4G Q System Wireless Control

The QZ-S can wirelessly control compatible NEEWER Q system flashes.

  • Groups: Control up to 5 groups (A, B, C, D, E).
  • Channels: Select from 32 channels.
  • IDs: Use 01-99 IDs for interference-free operation.
  • Idle Channel Scan: Access this function via the menu to find available channels and avoid interference.

6.5 High-Speed Sync (HSS)

The QZ-S supports 1/8000s High-Speed Sync, allowing you to use flash at shutter speeds faster than your camera's native sync speed.

6.6 Zoom Setting

The flash trigger supports auto or manual zooming from 20mm to 200mm. Adjust this setting via the screen interface.

6.7 Single Contact Mode

To enable or disable single contact mode, go to the menu and tap 'SHOOT'.

  • Note: When single contact mode is enabled, TTL and Stroboscopic modes are not available.
  • Important: Disable single contact mode for TTL and Strobe functionality.

6.8 Modeling Light Control

You can turn the modeling light on/off and adjust its brightness via the screen slider in the menu.

7. Maintenance

  • Regularly clean the hot shoe contacts with a clean, dry cloth to ensure reliable connection.
  • Store the flash trigger in its protective case when not in use to prevent scratches and damage.
  • Avoid dropping the device or subjecting it to strong impacts.
  • If the device will not be used for an extended period, charge it periodically to maintain battery health.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Device not powering on: Ensure the battery is charged. Long press the power button (2) to turn on. If still unresponsive, try force shutdown (Power button + Manual flash trigger button).
  • Flash not firing: Check if the trigger is securely mounted on the camera's hot shoe. Verify that the flash unit is powered on and set to the correct group, channel, and ID. Ensure single contact mode is disabled if using TTL or Strobe.
  • Inconsistent flash exposure: Check battery levels of both the trigger and the flash unit. Ensure the flash mode (TTL/M) is appropriate for your shooting conditions.
  • Touchscreen unresponsive: Try restarting the device. Ensure the screen is clean and dry.
  • Interference with wireless signal: Use the 'Idle Channel Scan' feature to find a clear channel. Adjust IDs if necessary.
