5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior with a soft cloth and mild detergent. Dry thoroughly.
- Interior: Unplug the freezer. Remove all food and baskets. Wash the interior with a solution of baking soda and warm water (2 tablespoons baking soda to 1 quart water). Rinse and dry thoroughly before plugging back in.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals.
5.2 Manual Defrosting
This is a manual defrost freezer. Defrost when ice accumulation reaches about 1/4 to 1/2 inch (0.6 to 1.2 cm) thick.
- Unplug the freezer from the power outlet.
- Remove all food and store it in another freezer or cooler.
- Open the freezer lid and place towels on the floor around the unit to catch melting ice.
- Locate the drain plug (if present) at the bottom of the freezer and remove it to allow water to drain. Use a shallow pan to collect the water.
- Allow the ice to melt naturally. You can speed up the process by placing bowls of hot water inside the freezer (do not use boiling water directly on surfaces).
- Once all ice has melted, clean and dry the interior thoroughly.
- Replace the drain plug, plug the freezer back in, and allow it to cool for a few hours before returning food.
5.3 Power Outage
In case of a power outage, keep the freezer door closed. The freezer's high-density foam insulation and insulated door seal will help maintain cold temperatures for an extended period, delaying food spoilage.
