AKKTOL Rivet Nut Tool Kit M12 - Instruction Manual

Model: M12

1. Product Overview

The AKKTOL Rivet Nut Tool Kit is a heavy-duty solution designed for efficient and reliable installation of rivet nuts (also known as nutserts). This tool features a double-compound 16-inch handle design, engineered to provide significantly increased leverage, reducing the effort required for installation by up to 50% compared to standard 14-inch tools. It is particularly effective for installing larger nutsert sizes, such as M12 or 1/2"-13, into various materials including aluminum, steel, and stainless steel.

The kit includes a wide selection of mandrels and rivet nuts, making it versatile for numerous applications in metal fabrication, automotive work, and other projects requiring secure threaded inserts.

2. Safety Information

Always follow these safety guidelines when operating the AKKTOL Rivet Nut Tool:

  • Wear Eye Protection: Always wear ANSI-approved safety glasses or goggles to protect your eyes from flying debris.
  • Keep Hands Clear: Ensure hands and fingers are clear of the tool's moving parts, especially when squeezing the handles.
  • Read Instructions: Familiarize yourself with the entire manual before operating the tool.
  • Use Correct Mandrel: Always use the correct size mandrel and nosepiece for the rivet nut being installed. Using an incorrect size can damage the tool or the fastener.

4. Setup: Changing Mandrels and Nosepieces

The AKKTOL Rivet Nut Tool is designed for quick and easy mandrel and nosepiece changes without the need for additional tools. This allows for seamless transitions between different rivet nut sizes.

  1. Select Correct Size: Identify the appropriate mandrel and nosepiece that matches the diameter and thread of the rivet nut you intend to install.
  2. Remove Existing Mandrel (if applicable): If a mandrel is already installed, hold the tool handles apart to relieve tension. Unscrew the knurled head of the mandrel counter-clockwise until it detaches from the tool. Remove the corresponding nosepiece.
  3. Install New Mandrel: Insert the new nosepiece into the tool head. Then, thread the new mandrel clockwise into the tool head until it is finger-tight. Ensure it is securely seated.
  4. Verify Installation: Gently close and open the tool handles to ensure the mandrel moves smoothly and is properly aligned.

5. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to properly install a rivet nut using your AKKTOL tool:

  1. Prepare the Hole: Drill a hole in your workpiece that is slightly larger than the diameter of the rivet nut body, but smaller than its flange. The hole size should allow the rivet nut to fit snugly.
  2. Thread Rivet Nut: Thread the chosen rivet nut onto the installed mandrel of the tool until it is fully seated against the nosepiece.
  3. Insert Rivet Nut: Insert the rivet nut, with the tool attached, into the pre-drilled hole in your workpiece. Ensure the flange of the rivet nut is flush against the material surface.
  4. Set the Rivet Nut: Firmly and steadily squeeze the handles of the tool together. You will feel resistance as the rivet nut deforms and creates a bulge on the blind side of the material, securing itself in place. Continue squeezing until the rivet nut is fully set and the tool's stroke is complete.
  5. Remove the Tool: Once the rivet nut is set, slowly open the tool handles. Then, unscrew the tool from the newly installed rivet nut by rotating the tool counter-clockwise while holding the handles slightly apart.
  6. Inspect Installation: Verify that the rivet nut is securely fastened and flush with the material surface.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance will extend the life and performance of your AKKTOL Rivet Nut Tool:

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the tool with a clean, dry cloth to remove any dust, debris, or residue.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a light machine oil to the pivot points and threaded areas of the mandrels to ensure smooth operation and prevent corrosion.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect mandrels for wear or damage. Replace any worn or bent mandrels immediately to prevent tool damage or improper rivet nut installation.
  • Storage: Always store the tool and all accessories in the provided durable storage case when not in use. This protects the components from damage and keeps them organized.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Rivet nut not setting properly / Loose installation.Incorrect mandrel/nosepiece size; Insufficient squeeze force; Material too thick/thin for rivet nut.Ensure mandrel and nosepiece match rivet nut size. Apply full, firm pressure to handles. Verify rivet nut is appropriate for material thickness.
Mandrel breaks or strips.Over-tightening the rivet nut; Incorrect mandrel size; Worn mandrel.Do not over-tighten the rivet nut onto the mandrel before insertion. Use the correct mandrel size. Replace worn or damaged mandrels.
Rivet nut spins in hole.Hole drilled too large; Rivet nut not fully set.Ensure hole size is correct for the rivet nut. Apply full force to set the rivet nut completely. Consider using a larger flange rivet nut if material is soft.
