Setup

Before first use, wash all removable parts (water reservoir, hopper, filter basket, drip tray) in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. It is recommended to run two or three cycles with just water to clean the internal components.

1. Insert Charcoal Water Filter

Remove the filter holder from the water reservoir. Insert the charcoal filter into the holder and snap it closed. Place the filter holder back into the water reservoir.

2. Fill Water Reservoir

Remove the water reservoir from the back of the unit. Fill it with fresh, cold water up to the MAX fill line. Place the reservoir back into the unit, ensuring it is securely seated. The 'Add Water' indicator light will illuminate if the water level is below the minimum.

3. Add Coffee Beans to Hopper

Open the hopper lid located on top of the unit. Pour whole coffee beans into the hopper. The hopper can hold up to 0.5 lb of beans. Close the lid to maintain freshness. The 'Add Bean' indicator light will illuminate if the bean level is low.

Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and taste. The 'CLEAN' indicator light will illuminate when descaling is recommended.

1. Cleaning the Burr Mill and Hopper

The burr mill and bean hopper are removable for easy cleaning. Twist the burr mill assembly to unlock and lift it out. The hopper can also be detached. Clean these components with a brush (provided) or warm, soapy water. Ensure they are completely dry before reassembling.

2. Cleaning the Filter Basket and Drip Tray

After each brew, open the filter basket door and remove the gold-tone filter. Discard used grounds and rinse the filter under running water. The drip tray can be easily removed and washed with warm, soapy water.

3. Cleaning the Water Reservoir

The 48-ounce water reservoir is removable for easy filling and cleaning. Wash it periodically with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly.

4. Descaling

When the 'CLEAN' light illuminates, it's time to descale the unit. Follow the descaling instructions in the full product manual to remove mineral deposits that can affect performance.

Troubleshooting

  • Machine Not Brewing: Ensure the water reservoir is filled above the minimum line ('Add Water' light off) and the bean hopper has sufficient beans ('Add Bean' light off). Check that the filter basket and door are securely closed.
  • Weak Coffee: If using whole beans, try selecting a 'Bold' strength setting. If using pre-ground coffee, ensure you are using the correct amount for your desired cup size.
  • Grinder Not Working: Ensure whole beans are present in the hopper and the 'GROUND' (grind-off) option is not selected. Check that the burr mill is properly seated.
  • Flashing Lights (other than brewing): Refer to the full instruction booklet for specific error codes or indicator light patterns. Often, this indicates a need for water, beans, or cleaning.
