4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Basic Operation
- Power On/Off: Press the ON/OFF button to turn the tester on or off.
- Immerse Probe: Dip the probe into the water sample, ensuring the sensor is fully submerged but not the entire device.
- Read Measurement: Wait for the reading to stabilize on the LCD screen.
- Hold Reading: Press the HOLD/TEMP button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
- Temperature Unit: While in HOLD mode, press the HOLD/TEMP button to switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F).
- Switch Modes: Press the MODE/CAL button to cycle through the different measurement parameters (FAC, pH, Salt, EC, TDS, ORP).
- Clean After Use: After each use, rinse the probe thoroughly with distilled water and replace the protective cap.
4.2 Salinity Measurement Modes
The tester supports multiple units for salinity measurement. When the PPM value exceeds 10,000, it will automatically convert to PPT. You can cycle through %, PPT, and PPM modes using the MODE button.
- %: Percentage.
- PPT: Parts per thousand.
- PPM: Parts per million.

4.3 Recommended Water Parameter Ranges
- Free Chlorine (FAC): Ideal range for most pools is 1-3 ppm.
- Salt (Salinity): Ideal for saltwater pools and hot tubs is 2700-3400 ppm.
- pH: Ideal range for pools is 7.2-7.8.
- EC (Hydroponics): Optimal range is 800-2400 uS/cm.

5. Calibration
The Yewhick 7-in-1 tester comes factory-calibrated. However, regular calibration is recommended to maintain accuracy, especially for pH and other critical parameters. Calibration solutions are included with your device.
5.1 pH Calibration
- Prepare pH 4.00, pH 7.00, and pH 10.00 buffer solutions.
- Turn on the tester and immerse the probe into the pH 7.00 buffer solution.
- Press and hold the MODE/CAL button until the display shows 'CAL'. The tester will automatically recognize the buffer solution.
- Once calibration for pH 7.00 is complete (indicated by a stable reading), rinse the probe with distilled water.
- Repeat the process for pH 4.00 and pH 10.00 solutions.
5.2 Other Parameter Calibration
Refer to the specific instructions provided with your calibration solutions for FAC, Salinity, EC, TDS, and ORP, as these may vary. The general procedure involves immersing the probe in the standard solution and initiating the calibration mode.

6. Maintenance
- Probe Cleaning: Always rinse the probe with distilled water after each use to prevent contamination and ensure accurate readings.
- Electrode Storage: Keep the electrode moist by ensuring the protective cap is securely in place when not in use. If the electrode dries out, soak it in electrode storage solution or pH 7.00 buffer solution for several hours before use.
- Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Ensure correct polarity during installation.
- Electrode Replacement: Electrodes are replaceable. If the tester consistently provides inaccurate readings despite calibration, or if the probe is visibly damaged, consider replacing the electrode. A 3-month interval for non-human damage is suggested for electrode replacement.
- General Care: Store the tester in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid dropping or subjecting the device to strong impacts.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Inaccurate readings | Probe is dirty or dry; Calibration needed; Low battery. | Clean and re-moisten probe; Perform calibration; Replace batteries. |
| Display shows '---' or erratic values | Probe not fully submerged; Damaged probe; Out of measurement range. | Ensure probe is submerged; Check probe for damage, replace if necessary; Verify sample is within tester's range. |
| Tester does not turn on | Dead batteries; Incorrect battery installation. | Replace batteries; Check battery polarity. |
| Slow response time | Probe is dirty or aged. | Clean probe thoroughly; Consider electrode replacement if issue persists. |
