5. Operating Instructions
5.1 General Operation for Die-Cutting and Embossing
The MEIVIYA machine uses a 'sandwich' method to apply pressure for cutting or embossing. The specific layers of the sandwich will vary depending on whether you are die-cutting or embossing, and the thickness of your material.
- Prepare Your Materials: Select your desired paper, cardstock, felt, leather, or other compatible material. Choose the appropriate cutting die or embossing folder.
- Create the Sandwich: Assemble the layers according to your project. A typical die-cutting sandwich might include:
Cutting Pad > Die (cutting edge up) > Material > Plate > Cutting Pad.
For embossing, the sandwich typically involves the embossing folder with your material inside, placed between the appropriate plates/pads. Refer to the instructions provided with your specific dies and folders for precise layering. - Insert the Sandwich: Carefully place the assembled sandwich into the machine's opening. Ensure it is centered and aligned.
- Turn the Handle: Steadily turn the handle clockwise to feed the sandwich through the rollers. Apply consistent pressure. You may hear a slight cracking sound as the die cuts through the material; this is normal.
- Retrieve and Inspect: Once the sandwich has passed through the rollers, remove it from the machine. Carefully separate the layers to reveal your cut or embossed design.

7. Troubleshooting
- Material Not Cutting Completely:
- Ensure the correct 'sandwich' combination is used for your material and die.
- Check if the cutting pads are worn out. Replace if necessary.
- Try rotating the die or material slightly and passing it through again.
- Uneven Embossing:
- Verify that the embossing folder is properly aligned and the material is flat inside.
- Adjust the pressure by adding or removing shims (thin pieces of cardstock) if your machine allows for fine-tuning.
- Machine Jams:
- Do not force the handle. Gently turn the handle backward to release the sandwich.
- Ensure you are not trying to cut overly thick materials or too many layers at once.
