5. Setup

5.1 Charging the Device

The FDM-02 is powered by a built-in 1500mAh/3.7V lithium battery. Before first use, fully charge the device.

  1. Connect the provided USB charging cable to the charging port on the device.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to a standard USB power adapter (not included) or a computer's USB port.
  3. The charging indicator on the device will show the charging status. Once fully charged, disconnect the cable.

5.2 Powering On/Off

  • To Power On: Press and hold the power button (usually located on the side or front panel) until the display illuminates.
  • To Power Off: Press and hold the power button again until the display turns off. The device also supports adjustable auto-shutdown settings.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Basic Measurement

Once powered on, the device will typically enter real-time measurement mode, displaying the current sound level in decibels (dB).

  • Hold the meter in the desired measurement location, ensuring the microphone is pointed towards the sound source.
  • Read the decibel value displayed on the screen.

6.2 A/C Weighting Selection

The FDM-02 supports both A and C frequency weighting characteristics, allowing for measurements tailored to different types of noise.

  • A-Weighting: Simulates the human ear's response to sound, commonly used for environmental noise assessment.
  • C-Weighting: Provides a flatter response, suitable for measuring mechanical noise or peak sound levels.
  • To switch between A and C weighting, press the designated "A/C" button on the device. The current weighting will be indicated on the display.

6.3 Fast/Slow Time Weighting

The device offers two time weighting characteristics to capture different noise dynamics:

  • FAST (125 milliseconds): Provides a quicker response to rapidly changing noise levels, useful for capturing transient sounds.
  • SLOW (1 second): Offers a more stable reading for steady noise levels, averaging out fluctuations.
  • To switch between FAST and SLOW, press the "FAST/SLOW" button. The selected mode will be displayed.

6.4 Curve Recording

The curve recording feature allows for visualization of noise level changes over a period of time.

  • Navigate to the curve interface using the device's menu buttons.
  • The screen will display a graph showing the noise level fluctuations, updated every 0.5 seconds.
  • This mode is useful for monitoring noise trends and identifying patterns.
