Key Features:
- Standard Weight: 205g
- Retrieve Length: 90 cm per handle rotation
- Gear Ratio: 8.5:1
- Maximum Drag Force: 6 kg
- Standard Line Capacity (PE): 1.5-200m / 2-150m
- Handle Arm Length: 90 mm
- Bearings: 12 Ball / 1 Roller
Setup
1. Attaching the Reel to a Rod
Align the reel foot with the reel seat on your fishing rod. Securely tighten the reel seat nut until the reel is firmly attached and does not wobble. Ensure the reel is oriented correctly for left-hand retrieve.
2. Spooling Line
Attach your fishing line to the reel spool using an appropriate knot. Begin winding the line onto the spool, maintaining light tension to ensure even and tight wraps. Fill the spool to approximately 1.5-2mm below the rim to prevent tangles and ensure optimal casting performance. Refer to the specifications for recommended line capacities (e.g., PE 1.5-200m or 2-150m).
3. Adjusting the Drag System
The star drag knob is located next to the handle. Turn the knob clockwise to increase drag tension and counter-clockwise to decrease it. Adjust the drag to approximately one-third of your line's breaking strength. This allows the line to pay out under heavy load, preventing line breakage.
4. Brake System Adjustment (Magforce Z)
The IM Z TW features an advanced magnetic braking system. Adjust the external dial to control the magnetic force applied to the spool during casting. Higher settings provide more braking, reducing backlashes, while lower settings allow for longer casts. Experiment with different settings to find the optimal balance for your lure weight and casting style.

5. Initial Charging (if applicable)
This reel may feature smart functionalities requiring power. Before first use, ensure the reel is fully charged. Locate the charging port, typically covered by a protective cap. Connect the provided charging cable to the reel and a suitable power source. The battery indicator will show charging status.

Operating Instructions
1. Casting
Press the thumb bar to disengage the spool. With your thumb lightly on the spool, make your cast. Release your thumb as the lure begins its forward trajectory. Apply light thumb pressure to the spool as the lure approaches the water to prevent backlash.
2. Retrieving
Once the lure lands, turn the handle to engage the retrieve mechanism. The T-Wing System (TWS) will guide the line evenly onto the spool. Maintain a steady retrieve speed appropriate for your lure and target species.
3. Using the Drag System
During a fight with a fish, the drag system allows line to be pulled from the spool when the tension exceeds the set drag force. This prevents line breakage. Adjust the drag as needed during the fight, but avoid making drastic changes.
4. Understanding Brake Modes
The IM Z TW reel features various brake modes, indicated by colored lights, to optimize casting performance for different conditions and line types:
- Standard Mode: General purpose casting.
- PE/Braid Mode: Optimized for PE (braided) lines, which require different braking characteristics.
- Long Cast Mode: Reduces braking for maximum casting distance, suitable for experienced users.
- Max Brake Mode: Provides maximum braking to prevent backlashes, ideal for beginners or windy conditions.

5. DAIWA CONNECTED App Integration
Your IM Z TW reel can connect to the DAIWA CONNECTED app via a smartphone or smartwatch for enhanced data tracking and reel management. Refer to the app's instructions for pairing and feature usage.

Maintenance
1. Cleaning the Reel
After each use, especially in saltwater, rinse the reel with fresh water. Do not submerge the reel. Wipe it dry with a soft cloth. Remove any dirt, sand, or debris from the exterior and moving parts.
2. Lubrication
Periodically apply a small amount of high-quality reel oil to the bearings and moving parts, and grease to the gears. Refer to the reel's exploded diagram (Figure 8) for lubrication points. Over-lubrication can attract dirt, so use sparingly.

Figure 8: Exploded view showing internal components for maintenance.
3. Storage
Store your reel in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use a reel cover or case to protect it from dust and physical damage.
4. Battery Care
If your reel has a rechargeable battery, avoid fully discharging it for extended periods. Charge the reel regularly, even during storage, to maintain battery health. Use only the manufacturer-recommended charging accessories.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your DAIWA IM Z TW 100XHL reel, refer to the common problems and solutions below:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Line backlash during casting | Brake setting too low, spool tension too loose, improper casting technique. | Increase brake setting, tighten spool tension, practice casting technique. |
| Stiff retrieve or grinding noise | Dirt/debris in gears, lack of lubrication, damaged components. | Clean and lubricate gears. If problem persists, seek professional service. |
| Drag slipping or inconsistent | Drag washers are dry, worn, or contaminated. | Clean and re-grease drag washers. Replace if worn. |
| Reel not powering on (if smart reel) | Battery discharged, connection issue. | Charge the battery. Ensure charging cable is securely connected. |
If you cannot resolve the issue using the troubleshooting guide, please contact DAIWA customer support.
