Setup

Connection Modes

The RK ROYAL KLUDGE M65 keyboard supports three connection modes: 2.4GHz Wireless, Bluetooth 5.1, and USB Type-C Wired.

2.4GHz Wireless Connection

  1. Locate the 2.4G USB dongle. It is typically stored in a magnetic slot on the keyboard.
  2. Plug the 2.4G USB dongle into an available USB port on your computer.
  3. On the keyboard, long press the dedicated 2.4G key (often marked with a wireless icon) to activate 2.4G mode. The indicator light will confirm the connection.

Bluetooth 5.1 Connection

  1. Ensure the keyboard is charged or connected via USB-C.
  2. Long press one of the Bluetooth keys (B1, B2, or B3) until the corresponding indicator light flashes rapidly. This indicates pairing mode.
  3. On your device (PC, laptop, smartphone, tablet), enable Bluetooth and search for new devices.
  4. Select "RK ROYAL KLUDGE M65" from the list of available devices to pair. The indicator light on the keyboard will become solid once connected.
  5. You can pair up to three Bluetooth devices by using B1, B2, and B3 keys. Short press to switch between paired devices.

USB Type-C Wired Connection

  1. Connect the provided USB Type-C cable to the keyboard's Type-C port.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to an available USB port on your computer.
  3. The keyboard will automatically switch to wired mode. This mode also charges the keyboard's internal battery.

Charging the Keyboard

The keyboard is equipped with a rechargeable battery. Connect the keyboard to a USB power source using the provided USB Type-C cable. The battery display will show the charging status. A full charge typically takes 8 hours.

Operating Instructions

Power Button and Mode Switching

  • Long press the power button: Turns off the keyboard.
  • Short press the power button: Switches to wired mode (if connected via USB-C).
  • Dedicated Wireless Connection Buttons: Use the 2.4G button or B1/B2/B3 buttons to switch between wireless modes.

Volume Knob Functionality

  • Clockwise rotation: Increases volume.
  • Counter-clockwise rotation: Decreases volume.
  • Press the knob: Mutes or unmutes audio.

RGB Backlight Customization

  • FN + PAUSE: Cycles through backlight colors.
  • FN + --: Slows down light speed.
  • FN + ==: Accelerates light speed.
  • FN + ↑: Increases brightness.
  • FN + ↓: Reduces brightness.

The keyboard offers 18 RGB backlight modes, 8 monochrome options, 5 brightness levels, 5 speed levels, and 1 full-color backlight mode for extensive personalization.

Battery Display

The integrated battery display provides real-time power monitoring, helping you avoid unexpected power outages during use.

Web Driver / Software Support

The RK ROYAL KLUDGE M65 supports a web driver for Windows and Mac (Mac only supports web driver) to customize backlight settings, program keys, and set macros and key combinations.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Keyboard

To maintain the keyboard's appearance and functionality, regularly clean it using a soft, dry cloth. For deeper cleaning, you may use a slightly damp cloth with mild cleaning solution, ensuring no liquid enters the keyboard. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

Switch and Keycap Replacement

The M65 keyboard features hot-swappable switches, allowing for easy replacement without soldering. Use the provided 2-in-1 keycap & switch puller for this process.

  1. Gently remove the keycap using the keycap puller.
  2. Use the switch puller to carefully grip the switch from its top and bottom clips, then pull it straight up.
  3. Align the pins of the new switch with the holes on the PCB. Ensure the pins are straight to avoid bending.
  4. Press the new switch firmly into place until it clicks.
  5. Reattach the keycap.

The keyboard supports 3-pin/5-pin switches. The included Cream switches are linear, offering a smooth, soft, and low-noise feel.

Troubleshooting

  • Keyboard not responding: Ensure the keyboard is charged and properly connected (wired, 2.4G dongle, or Bluetooth paired). Try switching between connection modes.
  • Bluetooth connection issues: Make sure the keyboard is in pairing mode (flashing indicator). Remove the keyboard from your device's Bluetooth list and try pairing again. Ensure your device's Bluetooth is enabled.
  • 2.4G wireless issues: Ensure the 2.4G dongle is securely plugged in and the keyboard is in 2.4G mode. Try plugging the dongle into a different USB port.
  • Keys not working: If individual keys are not working, try replacing the switch using the provided switch puller and spare switches. Ensure the switch is fully seated.
  • RGB backlight not working/customizing: Check brightness settings (FN + ↑/↓). Ensure the web driver/software is installed and running correctly for advanced customization.
  • Battery not charging: Verify the USB-C cable is connected correctly to both the keyboard and a working power source. Try a different USB-C cable or power adapter.
