4. Product Overview

The NF-859GT consists of a Transmitter unit and a Receiver unit, each with distinct interfaces and controls for various testing functions.

4.1 Transmitter Unit (NF-859GT)

The Transmitter unit features a large color screen and multiple ports for connectivity and testing.

  • Big Color Screen: Displays test results and menu options.
  • Optical Power Meter Interface: For connecting fiber optic cables to measure power.
  • VFL Interface: For connecting fiber optic cables for visual fault location.
  • Local Test M Port: Main RJ45 port for connecting cables to be tested.
  • POE Test Port: Dedicated port for Power over Ethernet testing.
  • Type-C Charging Port: For recharging the internal battery.

5. Setup

5.1 Charging the Device

The NF-859GT Transmitter and Receiver units are equipped with rechargeable lithium batteries. Connect the provided Type-C charging cable to the charging port on each unit and to a standard USB power adapter (not included). The power indicator will show charging status.

5.2 Powering On/Off

Press and hold the On/Off Key on both the Transmitter and Receiver units to power them on or off.

6. Operation

The NF-859GT offers a variety of testing modes accessible via the Transmitter's main menu.

6.1 Cable Continuity Test (CONT)

This function tests the continuity of RJ45, RJ11, CAT5/5e/6/6a network cables and telephone lines.

  1. Connect one end of the cable to the Local Test M Port on the Transmitter.
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to the Remote Alignment Test A Port on the Receiver.
  3. On the Transmitter, navigate to the CONT function and press OK.
  4. The screen will display the wiring sequence and identify any open circuits, short circuits, or cross-connections.

6.2 Wire Tracing/Scanning (SCAN)

Use this function to locate a specific cable among a bundle of cables.

  1. Connect one end of the cable to the Local Test M Port on the Transmitter.
  2. On the Transmitter, select the SCAN function. Choose between Digital Mode or Analog Mode based on environmental interference.
  3. Use the Receiver's probing rod to trace the cable. The signal strength indicator and audible tone on the Receiver will guide you to the correct cable.
  4. Adjust the Receiver's Sensitivity Adjustment Knob for optimal tracing.

6.3 Port Flashing

This feature helps locate the corresponding port on a switch or hub by making its indicator light flash.

  1. Connect the Transmitter's Local Test M Port to an active port on a network switch or hub.
  2. On the Transmitter, select the Port Flash function.
  3. The connected port's indicator light on the switch will flash, allowing for easy identification. The device also displays port information such as operating speed and duplex mode.

6.4 POE Test

Detects Power over Ethernet (POE) voltage, polarity, and non-standard POE devices.

  1. Connect the network cable from the POE source to the POE Test Port on the Transmitter.
  2. On the Transmitter, select the POE function.
  3. The screen will display POE voltage, power supply type (e.g., 802.3af, 802.3at), and pin configuration.

6.5 Length Measurement

Measures the length of network cables (RJ45) from 2.5m to 200m with an accuracy of ±0.5%.

  1. Ensure the cable is disconnected from any network devices.
  2. Connect one end of the cable to the Local Test M Port on the Transmitter.
  3. On the Transmitter, select the Length function.
  4. The screen will display the measured cable length. This function is useful for identifying cable breaks.

6.6 Optical Power Meter (OPM)

Measures the power of optical signals in fiber optic cables.

  1. Connect the fiber optic cable to the Optical Power Meter Interface on the Transmitter.
  2. On the Transmitter, select the OPM function.
  3. The device supports 6 standard wavelengths (850/1300/1310/1490/1550/1625 nm) with a power detection range of -70 to +10 dBm. Select the appropriate wavelength for your measurement.
  4. The screen will display the optical power reading.

6.7 Visual Fault Locator (VFL)

Identifies breaks, bends, and poor connections in fiber optic cables using a visible laser light.

  1. Connect the fiber optic cable to the VFL Interface on the Transmitter or Receiver (for dual-head VFL).
  2. On the Transmitter, select the VFL function.
  3. A 10mW, 650nm red laser light will be emitted. Observe the cable for light leakage at fault points.

6.8 QC Test (Crimping Quality)

This function checks the quality of RJ45/RJ11 crimping.

  1. Connect the crimped cable to the Local Test M Port on the Transmitter.
  2. On the Transmitter, select the QC TEST function.
  3. The device will analyze the crimping and indicate if it is correct or if there are errors.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Keep the ports free of dust and debris.

7.2 Battery Care

To prolong battery life, charge the device regularly, even if not in frequent use. Avoid fully discharging the battery for extended periods. Store the device in a cool, dry place when not in use.
