4. Setup

4.1. Attaching the Handle Unit

Align the handle unit with the accessory shoe on top of the camcorder and slide it forward until it clicks into place. Secure it with the locking screw.

4.2. Inserting the Battery Pack

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the rear of the camcorder.
  2. Insert the battery pack, ensuring the contacts align correctly.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover until it locks.

4.3. Inserting an SD Card

The XA60 features dual SD card slots. To insert an SD card:

  1. Locate the SD card slot cover on the side of the camcorder.
  2. Open the cover and gently push the SD card into the slot until it clicks. Ensure the card is oriented correctly.
  3. Close the SD card slot cover.

4.4. Powering On/Off

To power on the camcorder, slide the POWER switch to the ON position. To power off, slide it to the OFF position. For extended periods of non-use, remove the battery pack.

5. Operating the Camcorder

5.1. Basic Recording

To begin recording:

  1. Set the camcorder to camera mode using the CAMERA/MEDIA switch.
  2. Frame your shot using the 3.5" LCD monitor or the OLED EVF.
  3. Press the START/STOP button to begin recording. Press it again to stop.

5.2. Zoom Operation

Use the zoom rocker on the camcorder body or the handle unit to control the 20x optical zoom. For precise control, use the zoom ring on the lens.

5.3. Image Stabilization

The XA60 features 5-axis Dynamic IS. This function is automatically engaged to reduce camera shake. You can adjust stabilization modes in the menu if needed.

5.4. Audio Recording

The camcorder includes a built-in stereo microphone. For professional audio, connect external microphones to the dual XLR inputs on the handle unit. Adjust audio levels using the dedicated controls on the handle.

5.5. Livestreaming (UVC)

Connect the camcorder to a computer via USB-C. The camcorder supports UVC (USB Video Class) for direct HD streaming without additional hardware. Select UVC mode in the camcorder's menu if prompted.

5.6. Dual SD Card Recording

The XA60 supports two SD cards for recording. You can configure it for:

  • Relay Recording: Automatically switches to the second card when the first is full.
  • Simultaneous Recording: Records to both cards simultaneously for backup.

5.7. Focusing

The camcorder offers both manual focus and Touch AF. To use Touch AF, tap the desired subject on the LCD screen. For manual focus, use the focus ring on the lens.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning the Camcorder

  • Body: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a cloth lightly dampened with water and then dry thoroughly.
  • Lens: Use a lens brush to remove dust, then gently wipe with a lens cleaning cloth and lens cleaning solution.
  • LCD Screen: Use a soft, dry cloth. Avoid pressing hard on the screen.
