4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Basic Measurement
- Turn on the device as described in Section 3.
- Select the appropriate material mode (Drywall, Masonry, Softwood, Hardwood) by pressing the SEL button. The selected mode will be indicated on the display.
- Place the back of the meter (where the sensor is located) flat against the surface of the material you wish to measure. Ensure the object's thickness is greater than 20mm and its area is greater than 40x40mm for accurate readings.
- Read the moisture content percentage displayed on the screen.
4.2 Measurement Modes
The WM700A offers four distinct measurement modes:
- Drywall Mode: For measuring moisture in drywall.
- Masonry Mode: For measuring moisture in masonry materials like brick and concrete.
- Softwood Mode: For measuring moisture in softwood types.
- Hardwood Mode: For measuring moisture in hardwood types.
Press the SEL button repeatedly to cycle through these modes.

4.3 Data Hold Function
Press the HOLD button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold and resume live measurements.
4.4 Zero Calibration
To ensure accuracy, especially when changing measurement environments, you can perform a zero calibration. Hold the meter in the air, away from any materials, and press the ZERO button. The display should show '0' or a very low value.
4.5 Unit Switching (°C/°F)
Press the °C/°F button to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit for temperature readings.
5. Over-Range Alarm
The WM700A features an audible alarm to alert you when detected moisture levels exceed critical thresholds:
- If the detection value for drywall or masonry exceeds 70%, the buzzer will sound.
- If the detection value for softwood or hardwood exceeds 17%, the buzzer will sound.
This feature helps in quickly identifying potentially problematic moisture conditions.
6. Environmental Humidity and Temperature Detection
The device is equipped with sensors to measure the ambient temperature and humidity of the surrounding environment. These readings are displayed on the screen alongside moisture content measurements.

Figure 6: The meter's display clearly shows both temperature and humidity readings from its integrated sensors.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the meter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
- Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display to ensure accurate readings.
8. Troubleshooting
- Device does not turn on: Check if the batteries are installed correctly and if they have sufficient charge. Replace batteries if necessary.
- Inaccurate readings: Ensure the meter is placed flat against the material. Verify that the material's thickness and area meet the minimum requirements (thickness > 20mm, area > 40x40mm). Perform a zero calibration.
- Display is dim or flickering: This usually indicates low battery power. Replace the batteries.
