Setup

1. Charging the Battery

Before first use, fully charge the NP-BX1 battery using the supplied AC adapter and Micro-USB cable or the dedicated battery charger.

  1. Insert the battery into the camera or the external charger.
  2. Connect the AC adapter to the camera/charger and then to a power outlet.
  3. The charging indicator will illuminate during charging and turn off when complete.

2. Inserting a Memory Card

The camera supports SD (Secure Digital) memory cards. Ensure the card is inserted correctly to avoid damage.

  1. Open the memory card/battery cover on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the memory card with the contacts facing the correct direction until it clicks into place.
  3. Close the cover securely.

3. Attaching the Wrist Strap

Attach the wrist strap to prevent accidental drops.

  1. Thread the strap adapter through the strap eyelet on the camera body.
  2. Attach the wrist strap to the strap adapter.

Operating the Camera

Powering On/Off

Press the ON/OFF button located on the top of the camera to power on or off.

Basic Shooting Modes

Rotate the mode dial to select your desired shooting mode:

  • Intelligent Auto: Camera automatically detects the scene and adjusts settings.
  • Program Auto (P): Camera sets exposure, but you can adjust other settings.
  • Aperture Priority (A): You set the aperture, camera sets shutter speed.
  • Shutter Priority (S): You set the shutter speed, camera sets aperture.
  • Manual Exposure (M): You control both aperture and shutter speed.
  • Movie Mode: For recording videos.
  • HFR (High Frame Rate): For slow-motion video recording up to 960 fps.

Using the Viewfinder and LCD Screen

The camera features a pop-up electronic viewfinder (EVF) and a tilting touchscreen LCD.

  • To use the EVF, slide the FINDER switch on the side of the camera. The EVF will pop up.
  • The 3.0" LCD screen can tilt 180 degrees for various shooting angles, including selfies and vlogging.

Autofocus and Tracking

The camera utilizes a Fast Hybrid AF system with 357 phase-detect points for quick and accurate focusing. Real-Time Tracking and Eye-AF features enhance subject tracking for both stills and video.

  • To activate Eye-AF, assign it to a custom button or select it from the menu.
  • For continuous tracking, set the AF mode to AF-C (Continuous AF) and select a tracking focus area.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Camera

  • Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the camera body.
  • For the lens, use a lens brush or a blower to remove dust, then gently wipe with a lens cleaning cloth. Avoid touching the lens surface with your fingers.
  • Clean the LCD screen with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Battery Care

  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Avoid fully discharging batteries frequently to prolong their lifespan.
  • If not using the camera for an extended period, remove the battery.

Storage

When storing the camera for long periods, ensure it is powered off, the battery is removed, and it is kept in a dry environment away from extreme temperatures and humidity. Use the provided case for protection.

Troubleshooting
