4. Package Contents
Your package should contain the following item:
- 1 x Lower Bake Heating Element
5. Installation / Setup
Follow these steps carefully to replace your oven's lower bake heating element. Remember to prioritize safety by disconnecting power before starting.
Required Tools (Not Included):
- Screwdriver (Phillips or flathead, depending on oven model)
- Pliers (optional, for stubborn wire connections)
- Work gloves
Installation Steps:
- Disconnect Power: Locate your oven's circuit breaker in your home's electrical panel and switch it to the OFF position. Alternatively, unplug the oven from the wall outlet if accessible. Verify power is off by attempting to turn on the oven light or controls.
- Prepare the Oven: Open the oven door completely. Remove all oven racks and any other removable accessories to provide clear access to the oven cavity.
- Locate the Old Element: The lower bake element is typically located at the bottom of the oven cavity. It is usually held in place by two screws at the back of the oven.
- Remove Old Element Screws: Using a screwdriver, carefully remove the two screws securing the old heating element to the back wall of the oven. Keep these screws as they may be needed for the new element.
- Gently Pull Element Forward: Carefully pull the old heating element forward a few inches into the oven cavity. This will expose the electrical terminals and wires connected to it. Do not pull too far, as the wires are still attached.
- Disconnect Wires: Note the position of each wire before disconnecting. It is often helpful to take a picture. Carefully disconnect the wires from the terminals of the old heating element. If the wires are difficult to remove, use pliers to gently pull them off. Ensure the wires do not retract into the back wall of the oven. If they do, they can be difficult to retrieve.
- Inspect the New Element: Compare the new heating element with the old one to ensure they are identical in shape and terminal configuration.
- Connect New Element Wires: Connect the wires to the terminals of the new heating element. Ensure the connections are firm and secure.
- Position and Secure New Element: Carefully push the new heating element into place, aligning the mounting bracket with the screw holes at the back of the oven. Secure the element with the screws removed in step 4.

Figure 2: A view of the element's mounting bracket, which secures it to the oven's rear wall. The holes indicate where screws are inserted for installation.

Figure 3: A detailed view of a section of the heating element, possibly showing a bend or a securing clip. This illustrates the robust construction of the element.
- Replace Oven Racks: Once the element is securely installed, replace all oven racks and accessories.
- Restore Power: Go back to your circuit breaker or fuse box and restore power to the oven.
- Test Operation: Turn on the oven to a low bake setting and observe the new element. It should begin to heat up and glow red. Allow it to operate for a few minutes to ensure proper function. A slight burning smell may occur during the first use as manufacturing residues burn off; this is normal.
6. Operation
The lower bake heating element operates automatically in conjunction with your oven's temperature controls. Once installed, it will activate and deactivate as needed to maintain the set temperature for baking. No direct user interaction with the element itself is required during normal oven operation.
7. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your heating element:
- Keep Oven Clean: Regularly clean your oven cavity according to your oven manufacturer's instructions. Avoid excessive spills directly onto the heating element.
- Avoid Impact: Be careful when placing or removing oven racks and bakeware to avoid striking the heating element, which can cause damage.
- Periodic Inspection: Periodically inspect the element for any visible signs of damage, such as cracks, breaks, or severe discoloration. If damage is observed, replace the element promptly.
8. Troubleshooting
If your oven is not heating correctly after replacing the element, consider the following:
- No Heat: Ensure the oven's power supply is fully restored (circuit breaker ON). Check that the wires are securely connected to the element terminals.
- Uneven Heating: While the new element should provide even heat, if issues persist, ensure the element is correctly seated and not bent or obstructed. Verify that your oven's temperature sensor (thermostat probe) is clean and correctly positioned.
- Element Not Glowing: If the element does not glow red when the oven is set to bake, re-check power connections and ensure the oven controls are functioning correctly.
If troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, it is recommended to contact a qualified appliance technician.
