4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

  1. Unscrew the battery case cover at the top of the meter.
  2. Insert three (3) LR44 button cell batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  3. Securely replace the battery case cover.

4.2 Electrode Preparation

  1. Carefully remove the protective cap from the electrode.
  2. Rinse the electrode with distilled water.
  3. Ensure the protective sponge inside the cap is moist with electrode protection liquid. If dry, add a few drops of storage solution or distilled water.

4.3 Calibration

Calibration is essential for accurate readings. The GX-pH03A supports 2-point or 3-point calibration using pH 4.00, pH 7.00, and pH 10.00 buffer solutions. Calibration powders for pH 4.00 and pH 7.00 are included.

  1. Prepare Buffer Solutions: Dissolve the pH 4.00 and pH 7.00 calibration powders in 250ml of distilled water each to create your buffer solutions.
  2. Clean Electrode: Rinse the electrode thoroughly with distilled water and gently blot dry with a clean, lint-free tissue.
  3. Start Calibration: Turn on the pH meter. Press and hold the "CAL" button until the display shows "CAL".
  4. Calibrate pH 7.00: Immerse the electrode into the pH 7.00 buffer solution. The meter will automatically recognize the solution. Wait for the reading to stabilize and for "CAL" to stop flashing, then press "CAL" again to confirm. The display will show "END" and return to measurement mode.
  5. Calibrate pH 4.00: Rinse the electrode with distilled water. Immerse the electrode into the pH 4.00 buffer solution. The meter will automatically recognize the solution. Wait for the reading to stabilize and for "CAL" to stop flashing, then press "CAL" again to confirm. The display will show "END" and return to measurement mode.
  6. (Optional) Calibrate pH 10.00: If a pH 10.00 buffer solution is available, repeat step 5 using the pH 10.00 solution after calibrating pH 4.00.
  7. Final Rinse: After calibration, rinse the electrode with distilled water.

Note: For optimal accuracy, calibrate the meter regularly, especially before critical measurements or if the meter has not been used for an extended period.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

Press the ON/OFF button to turn the meter on or off.

5.2 Taking a Measurement

  1. Ensure the meter is calibrated.
  2. Remove the protective cap and rinse the electrode with distilled water.
  3. Insert the spear electrode into the sample (liquid, semi-solid, or solid food). Ensure the electrode tip is fully immersed or penetrates sufficiently into the sample.
  4. Gently stir the sample if it's liquid, or allow sufficient contact time for semi-solids/solids.
  5. Wait for the reading on the LCD display to stabilize. The pH value and temperature will be shown.
  6. After measurement, rinse the electrode with distilled water and replace the protective cap.

5.3 Hold Function and Temperature Display

Press the HOLD/TEMP button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold. This button also allows you to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature units if applicable.

5.4 Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC)

The GX-pH03A features automatic temperature compensation, which means the meter automatically adjusts the pH reading based on the sample's temperature. This ensures accurate pH measurements across varying temperatures without manual adjustment.

5.5 App Connectivity and Data Management

The meter can connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth for enhanced data management.

  1. Download App: Search for the GIDIGI pH meter app on your mobile device's app store.
  2. Enable Bluetooth: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone.
  3. Pair Device: Open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to pair with your GX-pH03A meter.
  4. View and Store Data: Once connected, real-time readings will appear on your phone. The app allows you to store up to 1,000 pieces of data, view previous measurements, and add notes.
  5. Share and Print: Data can be shared with others or printed directly from the app.
  6. Set Range Alerts: You can set custom pH ranges within the app. If a measurement exceeds the set range, the value will be highlighted (e.g., turn red) for easy identification.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Electrode

After each use, or if the electrode appears dirty, rinse it thoroughly with distilled water. For stubborn residues, a mild cleaning solution specifically designed for pH electrodes may be used, followed by a thorough rinse with distilled water.

6.2 Electrode Storage

Proper storage is crucial for maintaining electrode sensitivity and extending its lifespan.

  • Always replace the protective cap after use.
  • Ensure the sponge inside the protective cap remains moist with electrode protection liquid (or pH 4.00 buffer solution if storage solution is unavailable). Do not store in distilled water as this can deplete the electrode's electrolyte.

6.3 Electrode Replacement

The GX-pH03A features a replaceable electrode. If the electrode's performance degrades significantly despite proper cleaning and calibration, or if it becomes physically damaged, it can be replaced. Contact GIDIGI support for information on obtaining a replacement electrode.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Inaccurate or Unstable Readings:
    • Ensure the meter is properly calibrated. Re-calibrate if necessary.
    • Clean the electrode thoroughly. Residue on the electrode can affect readings.
    • Check the electrode for damage.
    • Ensure the protective sponge is moist.
    • Verify the sample temperature is within the meter's operating range.
