3. Installation Guide

This section provides a general guide for installing the MAHVEC Car Radio Stereo. Professional installation is recommended. Always disconnect the car battery before starting any electrical work.

3.1. Disassembly of Original Radio Unit

  1. Prepare Tools: Use plastic trim removal tools to prevent damage to your vehicle's interior.
  2. Remove Center Stack Trim:
    • Start from the driver's side. Insert a pry tool and gently leverage until the first clip releases.
    • Continue inch by inch across to the passenger side, releasing clips one at a time.
    • Once all clips are free, the trim will slide out.
  3. Disconnect Switches: Disconnect the light switch, hazard switch, and AC controls located on the back of the trim piece. Each connector has a tab that needs to be depressed to release it.
  4. Remove Radio Unit:
    • Locate the Phillips screws holding the radio unit in place. There are screws on the outside and one deeper inside.
    • Remove all screws.
    • To clear the shifter, insert a small tool into the shift lock release slot and push it down. Shift the gear selector from Park (P) all the way to 1. Ensure the parking brake is engaged.
    • Carefully pull the radio unit out.
    • Disconnect all connectors from the back of the original radio unit. Each connector has a tab to press for release.

3.2. Wiring and Initial Setup

  1. Review Wiring Diagram: Refer to the provided user manual for the specific wiring diagram for your unit.
  2. Connect Harnesses: Connect the provided wiring harnesses to the new MAHVEC unit according to the diagram. Ensure all connections are secure.
  3. Connect USB Ports: Route the USB cables to your glove box or a convenient location.
  4. GPS Antenna: Attach the GPS antenna to the dashboard, ensuring it has a clear view of the sky.
  5. Microphone (Optional): If using an external microphone, plug it into the designated port.

3.3. Rearview Camera Installation

  1. Route Camera Cable:
    • Connect the long RCA cable from the camera to the main unit.
    • Route the cable from the front of the car, along the driver's side, under the weather strips.
    • When passing side pillars, ensure the cable is routed behind the side curtain airbags to avoid interference.
    • Continue routing the cable to the rear of the vehicle, through the rubber grommet in the tailgate, or by carefully cutting a small slot in the light housing for the cable to pass through.
  2. Connect Camera Power:
    • Locate the reverse light wiring in the tailgate.
    • Identify the positive wire (typically green) of the reverse light.
    • Splice the red power wire from the camera cable to the positive reverse light wire. This ensures the camera activates when the vehicle is in reverse.
  3. Mount Camera: Mount the AHD backup camera in a suitable location, typically near the license plate, ensuring a clear view.
