2. Important Safety Information

  • This smoke alarm is designed exclusively for detecting smoke. It does not detect carbon monoxide (CO).
  • Regularly test the smoke alarm to ensure it is functioning correctly.
  • Do not paint the alarm. Paint can interfere with the sensor's ability to detect smoke.

4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Physical Installation

  • Install smoke detectors on every level of your home, including basements.
  • Place detectors inside and outside sleeping areas.
  • Mount the detector on the ceiling or high on a wall, away from corners.

4.2 App Connection and Wi-Fi Setup

The X-Sense XS0B-iR connects directly to your home Wi-Fi network. A base station is not required.

  1. Download the X-Sense Home Security App from your device's app store.
  2. Ensure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4 GHz. This device does not support 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
  3. Follow the in-app instructions to add your new smoke detector. Ensure the device is within Wi-Fi coverage during setup.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Voice Alerts with Location

The detector provides clear voice alerts that specify the location of smoke detection. Users can select from up to 17 preset locations within the app. This feature assists in quickly identifying the source of an alarm, enhancing response time.

5.2 Night Mode

To prevent disturbance during sleep, the Night Mode feature allows you to schedule the green indicator light to turn off during specified hours. The alarm remains fully functional during this period. This feature is configured within the X-Sense app.

5.3 Smart App Control and Notifications

Manage your smoke alarm remotely using the X-Sense Home Security App. The app provides:

  • Real-Time Notifications: Receive immediate alerts for alarms, faults, and low battery warnings directly on your mobile device.
  • Remote Silence: Silence the alarm directly from the app.
  • Multi-User Sharing: Share device access with up to 12 family members, allowing them to monitor alarm status and receive alerts.

5.4 Optional Professional Monitoring (Protect+ Premium)

An optional Protect+ Premium subscription plan offers 24/7 professional monitoring services. Upon an alarm trigger, the monitoring center will send a message within 3 seconds to verify the emergency. After verification, a fire department dispatch can be initiated immediately.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Battery Replacement

The XS0B-iR smoke alarm is powered by a replaceable CR123A battery, which typically provides up to 1 year of power. The photoelectric sensor itself has a lifespan of up to 10 years. The app will provide low battery warnings when replacement is needed.

6.2 Cleaning

Dust and debris can affect the detector's performance. Gently vacuum the exterior of the alarm with a soft brush attachment at least once a month. Do not use cleaning solvents or wet cloths.

6.3 Testing

Test the smoke alarm weekly by pressing the test/silence button. The alarm should sound, and the app should register the test. This confirms the unit is functioning correctly.

7. Troubleshooting

If your X-Sense Smart Wi-Fi Smoke Detector is not functioning as expected, consider the following:

  • No Power/No Indicator Light: Check the battery installation. Ensure the CR123A battery is correctly inserted and has sufficient charge.
  • Cannot Connect to Wi-Fi: Verify that your Wi-Fi network is 2.4 GHz. Ensure the detector is within range of your Wi-Fi router. Restart your router and attempt the connection process again.
  • False Alarms: Ensure the detector is not installed near sources of steam, cooking fumes, or excessive dust. Clean the detector as described in the maintenance section.
