4. Setup Instructions
Follow these steps to prepare your paint sprayer for use.

Figure 4.1: Visual guide for sprayer setup.
- Prepare Paint: Use the included viscosity cup to test the paint's thickness. Dilute the paint according to the paint manufacturer's instructions until it passes the viscosity test. Latex paint specifically requires thinning.
- Insert Cup Liner: Place a disposable cup liner into the 1000ml paint container. This simplifies cleanup significantly.
- Fill Container: Pour the prepared, diluted paint into the container with the cup liner.
- Attach Container: Securely attach the filled container to the sprayer body.
- Select Nozzle: Choose the appropriate brass nozzle (1.0mm for fine finish, 1.8mm for small interior, 2.5mm for small exterior, 3.0mm for medium exterior) and attach it to the sprayer.
- Insert Battery: Insert a fully charged Makita 18V battery into the battery slot on the sprayer.
5. Operating Instructions
Once set up, follow these steps for effective painting.
Adjusting Spray Patterns and Flow:

Figure 5.1: Spray pattern and flow control adjustments.
- Spray Size Knob: Rotate the spray size knob to adjust the width of the spray pattern.
- Flow Control Knob: Adjust the flow control knob to regulate the paint output volume.
- 360° Rotating Nozzle: The nozzle can be rotated to achieve horizontal, vertical, or circular spray patterns. Select the pattern best suited for your project.
Spraying Technique:
- Test Spray: Before painting your main surface, always perform a test spray on a piece of scrap material to ensure the desired pattern and flow.
- Maintain Distance: Hold the sprayer approximately 6-12 inches (15-30 cm) from the surface, depending on the desired coverage and paint type.
- Even Strokes: Move the sprayer in smooth, even strokes, overlapping each pass by about 50% to ensure uniform coverage.
- Release Trigger: Release the trigger at the end of each stroke to avoid paint buildup.
- Multiple Coats: Apply multiple thin coats rather than one thick coat for a smoother finish and to prevent drips. Allow adequate drying time between coats.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning
Proper cleaning and maintenance ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your paint sprayer.
After Each Use:
- Disconnect Battery: Always remove the battery before cleaning.
- Dispose of Liner: Remove the disposable cup liner with any remaining paint and discard it properly. This eliminates the need to clean the main container.
- Clean Nozzle and Air Cap: Disassemble the nozzle, air cap, and nozzle nut. Clean these parts thoroughly with warm soapy water for water-based paints, or appropriate solvent for oil-based paints. Use the included cleaning brush and valve needle to clear any blockages.
- Flush Sprayer: Fill a clean cup liner with water (for water-based paints) or appropriate cleaning solvent (for oil-based paints). Attach it to the sprayer and spray until the liquid runs clear.
- Wipe Down: Wipe the exterior of the sprayer body with a damp cloth.
- Dry and Store: Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling and storing the sprayer in a clean, dry place.

7. Troubleshooting
Refer to this section for common issues and their solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No spray or weak spray | Nozzle clogged; paint too thick; air cap blocked; low battery. | Clean nozzle and air cap; thin paint further; ensure battery is charged. |
| Uneven spray pattern | Nozzle partially clogged; incorrect spray pattern setting; inconsistent movement. | Clean nozzle; adjust spray pattern knob; practice even strokes. |
| Paint drips or runs | Too much paint flow; holding sprayer too close; paint too thin. | Reduce flow with control knob; increase distance from surface; ensure paint is not over-thinned. |
| Sprayer not turning on | Battery not inserted correctly; battery discharged; faulty switch. | Reinsert battery; charge battery; contact customer support if switch is faulty. |
