Parts List
Before beginning assembly, verify that all parts are present and undamaged. Refer to the diagram below and your product's included manual for a complete list of components.
Video: This video provides a detailed overview of the parts included for a retractable awning assembly. It visually lists and labels each component, which is crucial for verifying package contents before starting the installation process.
Typical components include:
- Roller Tube Sections (A-1, A-2, A-3)
- Front Bar Sections (C-1, C-2, C-3)
- Torsion Bars (B-1, B-2, B-3)
- Left and Right Arms (L-1, L-2)
- Awning Fabric (M)
- Front Valance (O)
- Wall Brackets (D)
- Crank Handle (T)
- Various Screws, Bolts, and Washers (A-A-1, Q, P, N-1, N-2, F, U, V)
Setup and Assembly Instructions
Assembly requires at least two adults. Follow these steps carefully. For visual guidance, refer to the assembly videos provided.
Video: This video demonstrates the step-by-step assembly process for a retractable awning, covering everything from connecting frame components to attaching the fabric and mounting the unit. It is a comprehensive guide for installation.
Step 1: Assemble Roller Tubes
Connect the roller tube sections (A-1, A-2, A-3) using the provided connectors and screws (A-A-1). Ensure all connections are secure.
Step 2: Assemble Front Bars
Connect the front bar sections (C-1, C-2, C-3) using the internal connectors (U) and secure with screws (A-A-1).
Step 3: Connect Torsion Bars and Arms
Attach the torsion bars (B-1, B-2, B-3) to the left (L-1) and right (L-2) arms. Pay close attention to the specified insertion distances (e.g., 15.74" for L-1 and B-1, 14.17" for L-2 and B-3) to ensure correct arm tension and operation. Secure all connections with screws (A-A-1).
Step 4: Fabric Assembly
Slide the awning fabric (M) and front valance (O) into their respective channels on the roller and front bars. Note that the fabric has a front and back side; the back side has a hem and should face downwards. Two adults are required for this step.
Step 5: Roller Support Assembly
Install the roller support components (D, D-3, P, N-2) onto the roller tube. Ensure all parts are correctly oriented and secured.
Step 6: Wall Mounting
Determine the desired installation height (recommended 8'-13'). Mark a horizontal line for alignment. Using a 0.55" masonry drill bit, drill holes approximately 4" deep for the wall brackets (D). Use appropriate fasteners: expansion bolts for concrete/brick, or wood screws for wooden walls. Secure the wall brackets firmly.

Step 7: Final Attachment
Carefully lift the assembled awning and attach it to the installed wall brackets. Insert the hex screws (F) and plastic washers, but do not fully tighten the screw nuts initially. Leave about 0.5" space in between. Once the awning is in place, fully tighten all screws to secure it.
Operating Instructions
Your GarveeLife awning is designed for easy manual operation and flexible use.
Video: This video demonstrates the manual operation of the retractable awning, showing how to extend and retract it using the crank handle. It highlights the ease of use for adjusting shade as needed.
Extending and Retracting the Awning
- To extend the awning, insert the crank handle (T) into the designated loop on the side of the awning and turn it clockwise.
- To retract the awning, turn the crank handle counter-clockwise.
- Extend or retract the awning to your desired projection, up to 13 feet.
Adjusting the Awning Angle
The awning allows for a smooth 5-35° angle adjustment. This adjustment is typically made by manipulating the support arms. Consult your specific product manual for detailed instructions on how to adjust the pitch of your awning.

Image: This image illustrates the adjustable angle feature of the awning, allowing users to set the pitch between 3 and 35 degrees for optimal shade, controlled by a manual crank handle.
Maintenance
Proper maintenance will extend the life and appearance of your awning.
- Cleaning the Fabric: Clean the awning fabric regularly with mild soap and water. Use a soft brush or sponge. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to air dry completely before retracting. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Frame Inspection: Periodically check all bolts, screws, and connections for tightness. Tighten any loose fasteners. Inspect the aluminum frame and arms for any signs of damage or corrosion.
- Retraction: Always retract the awning during strong winds, heavy rain, or snow to prevent damage. If the awning becomes wet, extend it to dry completely before retracting to prevent mildew.
- Winter Storage: In areas with harsh winters, it is recommended to retract the awning and, if possible, cover it with a protective cover to shield it from extreme weather conditions.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your awning, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:
- Awning Sags When Fully Extended: This can occur if the installation angle is too low or if the arms are not properly tensioned. Ensure the wall brackets are installed at the recommended height and the arms are correctly adjusted during assembly. Re-check all connections for tightness.
- Difficulty Extending/Retracting: Check the crank mechanism for any obstructions or damage. Ensure the fabric is not snagged or misaligned in the roller tube. Lubricate moving parts if necessary with a silicone-based spray.
- Loose Components: Regularly inspect all screws, bolts, and connections. Tighten any loose fasteners using appropriate tools.
- Water Accumulation on Fabric: Ensure the awning is installed with an adequate pitch to allow water runoff. If the pitch is too flat, water may pool, causing sagging or damage. Adjust the angle if possible.
