2. Important Safety Instructions

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including the following:

  • Read all instructions.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  • To protect against fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, do not immerse cord, plugs, or appliance in water or other liquid.
  • Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  • Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.

  • The carafe is designed for use with this appliance. It must never be used on a range top.
  • Do not place a hot carafe on a wet or cold surface.
  • Do not use a cracked carafe or a carafe having a loose or weakened handle.
  • Do not clean carafe with cleansers, steel wool pads, or other abrasive materials.
  • All food-contact parts are BPA-free and FDA cleared as food contact safe.

4. Setup and First Use

4.1 Unpacking

  1. Carefully remove all packaging materials from the coffee maker.
  2. Ensure all components listed in Section 3 are present.
  3. Place the coffee maker on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface.

4.2 Initial Cleaning

Before brewing coffee for the first time, it is recommended to clean the appliance to remove any manufacturing residues.

  1. Wash the glass carafe, carafe lid, and filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. These parts are also top-rack dishwasher safe.
  2. Fill the water tank with fresh, cold water up to the 12-cup mark.
  3. Place an empty paper filter (or the reusable filter, if purchased separately) into the filter basket.
  4. Place the empty carafe on the heating plate.
  5. Plug the coffee maker into a grounded electrical outlet.
  6. Run a full brewing cycle without coffee grounds. Discard the water from the carafe.
  7. Repeat this process once more with fresh water.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Setting the Clock

  1. Plug in the coffee maker. The LCD display will show '12:00'.
  2. Press the 'H' button to set the hour.
  3. Press the 'M' button to set the minute.
  4. The clock is now set.

5.2 Brewing Coffee

  1. Fill Water Tank: Open the water tank lid and fill the tank with fresh, cold water to the desired level, corresponding to the number of cups you wish to brew. The transparent water tank allows for easy monitoring.
  2. Insert Filter: Place a Melitta #4 paper filter (or a permanent filter) into the filter basket.
  3. Add Coffee Grounds: Add the desired amount of ground coffee into the filter. A general guideline is one tablespoon of coffee per cup, adjusted to personal preference.
  4. Place Carafe: Ensure the glass carafe with its lid is correctly positioned on the heating plate.
  5. Select Strength (Optional): Use the control panel to select between 'Mild' and 'Intense' brewing strength, if available on your model.
  6. Start Brewing: Press the 'Brew' button to begin the brewing cycle. The illuminated water display will show the water heating process.
  7. Pause-and-Serve: The coffee maker features a pause-and-serve function, allowing you to temporarily remove the carafe to pour a cup before the brewing cycle is complete. Replace the carafe within 20 seconds to prevent overflow.
  8. Keep Warm: After brewing, the heating plate will automatically keep the coffee warm. The keep-warm time can be adjusted from 30 to 120 minutes using the control panel.

5.3 Programmable Brewing

To set the coffee maker to brew at a specific time:

  1. Follow steps 1-4 of 'Brewing Coffee'.
  2. Press the 'Program' button. The display will flash.
  3. Use the 'H' and 'M' buttons to set the desired brew time.
  4. Press the 'Program' button again to confirm. A small clock icon will appear on the display, indicating that the programmable brew is set.
  5. The coffee maker will automatically start brewing at the set time.

6. Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure optimal performance and longevity of your coffee maker.

6.1 Daily Cleaning

  1. Always unplug the coffee maker before cleaning and allow it to cool completely.
  2. Discard used coffee grounds and paper filter.
  3. Wash the glass carafe, carafe lid, and filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly. These parts are top-rack dishwasher safe.
  4. Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  5. Do not immerse the main unit in water or any other liquid.

6.2 Descaling

Mineral deposits (calcium) from water can build up in your coffee maker over time, affecting its performance and coffee taste. The descaling indicator on the LCD screen will alert you when descaling is recommended.

  1. Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions. Alternatively, you can use a solution of white vinegar and water (e.g., 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water).
  2. Pour the descaling solution into the water tank.
  3. Place an empty paper filter in the filter basket and the empty carafe on the heating plate.
  4. Run a full brewing cycle with the descaling solution.
  5. After the cycle, discard the solution from the carafe.
  6. Rinse the coffee maker by running two full brewing cycles with fresh, cold water only.
  7. The descaling indicator should reset automatically. If not, consult the troubleshooting section or contact customer support.
