Setup

1. Battery Installation

Ensure the sprayer is turned off before installing or removing the battery. Align a compatible Dewalt 20V battery (e.g., DCB203, DCB204, DCB240, DCB206, DCB208, DCB609) with the battery slot at the base of the handle and slide it in until it clicks securely into place. To remove, press the battery release button and slide the battery out.

2. Nozzle Selection and Installation

The sprayer comes with 4 nozzles (1.0mm, 1.5mm, 1.5mm, 2mm) to suit different paint types and project requirements. Select the appropriate nozzle based on the paint viscosity and desired spray pattern.

  • 1.0mm: For fine finishes, suitable for mailboxes or small intricate items.
  • 1.5mm: General purpose, ideal for walls or desks.
  • 2.0mm: For thicker coatings and larger surfaces, such as iron fences.

To install, unscrew the nozzle cap, place the chosen nozzle into position, and then screw the cap back on tightly to secure it.

3. Paint Preparation

Proper paint thinning is crucial for optimal spray performance and to prevent clogging. Use the included viscosity cup to test your paint.

  1. Fill the viscosity cup with the paint.
  2. Measure the time it takes for the paint to completely drain from the cup.
  3. Refer to your paint manufacturer's recommendations for thinning ratios or general guidelines (e.g., 100 DIN-s maximum viscosity). If the paint drains too slowly, thin it with the appropriate solvent (water for water-based paints, mineral spirits for oil-based paints) and re-test until the desired viscosity is achieved.
  4. Filter the thinned paint using a paint filter to remove any impurities or clumps that could clog the nozzle.

4. Filling the Paint Container

Unscrew the paint container from the sprayer. Carefully pour the prepared and filtered paint into the container. Do not overfill. Securely screw the paint container back onto the sprayer, ensuring a tight seal to prevent leaks.

Operating Instructions

1. Adjusting Flow Control

The flow control knob located on the sprayer allows you to adjust the paint output from 0 ml/min to 550 ml/min. Rotate the knob to increase or decrease the flow rate to match your paint type and desired coverage. Start with a lower setting and gradually increase as needed.

2. Adjusting Spray Patterns

The sprayer offers three adjustable spray patterns: horizontal, vertical, and circular. To change the pattern, rotate the air cap on the front of the sprayer. Ensure the air cap is securely in place after adjustment.

  • Horizontal: For spraying wider surfaces, moving the sprayer up and down.
  • Vertical: For spraying taller surfaces, moving the sprayer side to side.
  • Circular: For small areas, corners, or intricate details.

3. Test Spraying

Before applying paint to your project, always perform a test spray on a piece of cardboard or scrap material. This allows you to check the spray pattern, flow rate, and ensure even coverage. Adjust settings as necessary.

4. Application Techniques

Maintain a consistent distance from the surface (typically 6-12 inches) and move the sprayer in smooth, even strokes. Overlap each pass by about 50% to ensure uniform coverage. Avoid tilting the sprayer excessively, especially when the paint level is low, to prevent air from entering the suction tube.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Thorough cleaning immediately after each use is essential to prevent paint from drying and clogging the sprayer components, ensuring longevity and optimal performance.

  1. Empty Paint Container: Pour any remaining paint back into its original container.
  2. Disassemble: Unscrew the paint container, remove the nozzle cap, and detach the nozzle. The sprayer is designed for tool-free disassembly.
  3. Clean Components: Wash all parts that came into contact with paint (container, suction tube, nozzle, air cap) with warm soapy water for water-based paints, or appropriate solvent for oil-based paints.
  4. Clear Nozzle: Use the provided cleaning brush and cleaning needle to ensure the nozzle and any internal passages are free of paint residue.
  5. Rinse and Dry: Rinse all cleaned parts thoroughly with clean water and allow them to dry completely before reassembly or storage.
  6. Test with Water: After cleaning and reassembly, run clean water through the sprayer to ensure all paint residue is flushed out and the spray is clear.
