4. Installation

4.1. Doorbell Camera Placement

The doorbell camera is 100% wireless, eliminating the need for complex wiring. It communicates with the indoor monitor using a private 868 MHz protocol, which offers good penetration through walls.

  • Recommended Location: Install the doorbell camera at a height that allows for optimal viewing of visitors, typically around 1.2 to 1.5 meters (4 to 5 feet) from the ground.
  • Avoid Metal Surfaces: Do not install the video doorbell on a metal door or metal wall. Metal is a strong source of interference for wireless signals and can significantly reduce performance.

9. Troubleshooting

  • No Signal/Poor Signal: Ensure the doorbell is not installed on a metal surface. Metal can interfere with the 868 MHz wireless signal. Repositioning the doorbell or monitor may improve signal strength.
  • Monitor Not Connecting to Wi-Fi: Verify your Wi-Fi password and ensure the monitor is within range of your router. The monitor supports both 2.4G and 5G networks.
  • Short Battery Life: Frequent activations (motion detection, live view) can reduce battery life. Adjust PIR sensitivity to 'low' or 'medium' if unnecessary alerts are occurring. Ensure both devices are fully charged.
  • Motion Detection Not Working: Check PIR sensitivity settings in the monitor or app. Ensure the doorbell's view is clear of obstructions.
  • No Video Recording: Verify that the TF card is correctly inserted into the indoor monitor and has sufficient storage space.
  • App Connectivity Issues: Ensure your smartphone has a stable internet connection. Restart the TuyaSmart app or reinstall it if problems persist.
