2. Setup

Before first use, you will need to insert an ink refill into each pen.

  1. Uncap the Pen: Gently pull the cap off the fountain pen.
  2. Unscrew the Barrel: Hold the pen by the grip section and unscrew the barrel (the main body of the pen) counter-clockwise.
  3. Insert Ink Refill: Take one blue ink refill. The refill has a small, open end. Insert this end firmly into the back of the nib section until you feel a slight click or resistance, indicating it is securely seated and the seal is broken.
  4. Reassemble the Pen: Screw the barrel back onto the grip section clockwise until it is snug.
  5. Prime the Nib (Optional): If ink does not flow immediately, hold the pen nib-down for a few moments to allow gravity to draw ink to the nib. You may also gently tap the pen or lightly press the nib onto a piece of scrap paper to encourage ink flow.

3. Operating Instructions

The SHAKTISM Kuromi Fountain Pen is designed for comfortable and consistent writing.

Writing with Your Fountain Pen:

  • Hold Correctly: Hold the pen at a comfortable angle, typically between 45 and 55 degrees relative to the paper. The ergonomic shape of the pen is designed to facilitate a natural grip.
  • Light Pressure: Unlike ballpoint pens, fountain pens require very little pressure. The ink flows by capillary action. Applying excessive pressure can damage the nib.
  • Smooth Strokes: Allow the medium steel nib to glide smoothly across the paper. The 0.5mm line size provides a balanced ink flow for various writing tasks.
  • Retractable Mechanism: The pen features a retractable click mechanism. Press the top button to extend the nib for writing and press it again to retract it, protecting the nib when not in use.
  • Cap Chain: Utilize the included cap chain to secure the pen cap, preventing it from being misplaced when the pen is in use or stored.

4. Maintenance

Proper maintenance will ensure the longevity and performance of your fountain pens.

Cleaning the Nib:

  • Regular Cleaning: If the pen is not used for an extended period, or if ink flow becomes inconsistent, it may be beneficial to clean the nib section.
  • Disassemble: Remove the ink refill and unscrew the barrel.
  • Rinse: Rinse the nib section under cool, running water until the water runs clear. Avoid using hot water or harsh cleaning agents.
  • Dry: Gently dry the nib section with a soft, lint-free cloth or allow it to air dry completely before reinserting a refill.

Storage:

  • Cap When Not in Use: Always cap the pen when not in use to prevent the nib from drying out and to protect it from damage.
  • Store Horizontally or Nib Up: For short-term storage, storing the pen horizontally is ideal. For longer periods, storing it nib-up can prevent ink from pooling at the nib and drying out.
  • Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Do not expose the pens to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures, as this can affect the ink and pen materials.
