1. Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your K.balt 2-in Air Paint Sprayer. This HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) gravity feed spray gun is designed for general purpose use, aiming to reduce overspray and deliver a high-quality finish. It features an adjustable fan pattern and fluid control for precise application.

The sprayer is suitable for low-viscosity paints, lacquers, enamels, and urethanes. It is not recommended for use with latex paints.

2. Safety Information

Always follow these safety precautions to prevent injury or damage to the equipment.

  • Ventilation: Use in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling paint fumes. If adequate ventilation is not available, use a respirator.

4. Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage.
  2. Assembly:
    • Ensure the 600cc cup is securely threaded onto the spray gun body.
    • Verify the air pressure regulator is firmly attached to the air inlet of the spray gun.
    • Confirm the 1.4mm spray tip and associated components are correctly installed and tightened.
  3. Connect Air Supply: Attach your air compressor hose to the air pressure regulator. Ensure a secure, leak-free connection.
  4. Prepare Paint:
    • Thoroughly mix your chosen low-viscosity paint, lacquer, enamel, or urethane according to the manufacturer's instructions.
    • Strain the paint through a fine mesh filter to remove any impurities that could clog the spray gun.
    • Fill the 600cc gravity feed cup with the prepared paint. Do not overfill.
  5. Adjust Air Pressure: With the air supply connected and turned on, adjust the air pressure regulator to the recommended PSI for your paint and desired finish. Start with a lower pressure and gradually increase as needed.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Initial Adjustments:
    • Fluid Control Knob: Adjusts the amount of paint released. Turn clockwise for less paint, counter-clockwise for more.
    • Fan Pattern Control Knob: Adjusts the spray pattern from a round spot to a wide fan. Turn clockwise for a narrower pattern, counter-clockwise for a wider pattern.
    • Air Flow Control Knob: Regulates the air flow through the gun.
  2. Test Spray: Before applying to your project, test the spray pattern and adjustments on a piece of scrap material. Adjust the fluid, fan, and air controls until the desired pattern and coverage are achieved.
  3. Spraying Technique:
    • Hold the spray gun perpendicular to the surface, approximately 6-8 inches away.
    • Move the gun at a consistent speed, overlapping each pass by about 50%.
    • Release the trigger at the end of each pass to avoid excessive build-up.
    • Apply multiple thin coats rather than one thick coat for a smoother finish and to prevent runs.
  4. Refilling: When the paint level in the cup is low, disconnect the air supply, unthread the cup, refill with strained paint, and reattach securely before resuming operation.

6. Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your spray gun and ensure consistent performance.

  1. Immediate Cleaning After Use:
    • Empty any remaining paint from the cup.
    • Pour a small amount of appropriate cleaning solvent (e.g., paint thinner for oil-based paints, lacquer thinner for lacquers) into the cup.
    • Spray the solvent through the gun until it runs clear. Dispose of waste solvent properly.
    • Disassemble the air cap, fluid nozzle, and needle. Clean these parts thoroughly with a brush and solvent.
    • Clean the inside of the paint cup and the gun body.
    • Reassemble all parts, ensuring they are tightened correctly.
  2. Regular Inspection: Periodically check all seals and O-rings for wear and tear. Replace if necessary to prevent leaks.
  3. Lubrication: Apply a small amount of non-silicone lubricant to the needle packing and trigger pivot points as needed.
  4. Storage: Store the clean and dry spray gun in a safe, dry place, ideally using the built-in suspension hook.
