Watch movements are delicate instruments. Handle with care to avoid damage to the gears, pivots, and other intricate components. Always use appropriate watchmaking tools and work in a clean, dust-free environment.

  • Avoid touching the movement with bare hands; use finger cots or gloves to prevent oil and dirt transfer.
  • Do not expose the movement to strong magnetic fields, as this can affect its accuracy.

Installing a watch movement requires specialized skills and tools. If you are not experienced in watchmaking, it is strongly recommended to seek assistance from a professional watchmaker to avoid damaging the movement or your watch.

General Installation Steps (Professional Guidance Recommended):

  1. Prepare the Workspace: Ensure a clean, dust-free, and well-lit area. Gather all necessary watchmaking tools, including tweezers, screwdrivers, and a movement holder.
  2. Remove Old Movement (if applicable): Carefully remove the watch crown and stem, then detach the old movement from the watch case.
  3. Inspect the New Movement: Before installation, visually inspect the MIYOTA 8205 movement for any visible defects or damage.

6. Operation

The MIYOTA 8205 is an automatic movement, meaning it winds itself through the motion of your wrist. It also supports manual winding.

Winding the Movement:

  • Automatic Winding: Wear the watch regularly. The oscillating weight (rotor) inside the movement will rotate with your arm's motion, winding the mainspring.
  • Manual Winding: If the watch has stopped or to ensure a full power reserve, gently turn the crown clockwise in its normal (pushed-in) position for about 20-30 rotations. Do not overwind.

Setting Time and Date:

  1. Setting the Date: Pull the crown out to the first click position. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise (depending on the watch case design) to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the date mechanism.
  2. Setting the Day: Pull the crown out to the first click position. Turn the crown in the opposite direction from date setting to adjust the day.
  3. Setting the Time: Pull the crown out to the second click position. The second hand will stop (hacking feature may vary). Turn the crown to set the hour and minute hands. Push the crown back to the normal position to start the watch.

7. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your MIYOTA 8205 movement.

  • Regular Servicing: Automatic movements typically require servicing every 3-5 years by a qualified watchmaker. This includes cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment.
  • Cleaning: Keep the watch case clean to prevent dirt and dust from entering the movement.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the watch in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and strong magnetic fields.
  • Water Resistance: The movement itself is not water-resistant. Its water resistance depends entirely on the watch case it is installed in. Ensure the watch case is properly sealed if water resistance is desired.

Here are some common issues and potential solutions for your automatic watch movement:
