Setup
Powering the Device
The Kaito KA339W offers four ways to power the unit:
- Hand Crank: Rotate the hand crank clockwise or counter-clockwise for approximately 3-5 minutes to generate power for basic operation or to charge the internal battery. A charging indicator light may illuminate.
- Solar Panel: Place the radio with the solar panel facing direct sunlight. The solar panel charges the internal battery. Charging efficiency depends on sunlight intensity.
- USB Charging (DC IN 5V): Connect the included USB cable to the DC IN 5V port on the radio and to a USB power source (e.g., computer, wall adapter). The charging indicator light will illuminate. This is the fastest way to fully charge the internal battery.
- AA Batteries: Open the battery compartment and insert 3 AA batteries (not included) according to the polarity markings. This provides an alternative power source when the internal battery is depleted.
Note: For optimal performance, it is recommended to fully charge the internal battery via USB before first use.
Operating Instructions
Radio Operation (AM/FM/NOAA)
- Power On: Rotate the Volume Control knob clockwise until you hear a click and the radio turns on.
- Select Band: Use the Band Selector switch to choose between AM, FM, or NOAA.
- Extend Antenna: For best reception, fully extend the telescopic antenna, especially for FM and NOAA bands. For AM, try rotating the unit for better signal.
- Tune Station: Rotate the Tuning Dial to find your desired station. The tuning indicator may light up when a strong signal is received.
- Adjust Volume: Use the Volume Control knob to set the desired listening level.
- NOAA Weather Alerts: In NOAA mode, the radio will scan for active weather alerts. It is designed to receive all 7 NOAA weather channels.

Charging External Devices (USB Out)
- Ensure the internal battery of the KA339W is sufficiently charged.
- Connect your external device's USB charging cable to the USB Output Port on the KA339W.
- The KA339W will begin charging your device. Charging speed may vary.
- Note: This feature is intended for emergency charging of small devices like mobile phones. It may not fully charge larger devices.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the exterior with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Storage: Store the radio in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, ensure the internal battery is partially charged (not fully depleted or fully charged) and remove any AA batteries.
- Battery Care: Regularly charge the internal battery, even if not in use, to maintain its lifespan. Avoid over-discharging the battery completely.
