5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Espresso Brewing
The Gevi Espresso Machine features a 20-bar pump and NTC precise temperature control for optimal flavor extraction. A built-in pressure gauge helps monitor the extraction process.

Image 5.1: The 20-bar pump and pressure gauge for precise espresso extraction.
Brewing Steps:
- Prepare Coffee Grounds: Use freshly ground coffee. For best results, grind coffee beans to a fine consistency suitable for espresso.
- Fill Filter Basket: Place the appropriate filter (single or double shot) into the portafilter. Add ground coffee to the filter.
- Tamp Coffee: Use the included spoon & tamper to tamp the coffee grounds firmly and evenly. Ensure the surface is level.
- Attach Portafilter: Insert the portafilter into the group head and turn it to the right until it is securely locked in place.
- Place Cup(s): Position one or two espresso cups on the drip tray beneath the portafilter spouts.
- Select Brewing Amount: Press the single or double shot button. The machine will automatically brew the default amount.
- Monitor Pressure: Observe the built-in pressure gauge during extraction. The optimal pressure range is typically indicated on the gauge.
- Enjoy: Once brewing is complete, remove the cups and enjoy your espresso.

Adjustable Shot Volume:
The machine offers default single (1.02 oz) and double (2.03 oz) shot volumes. These can be customized within ranges of 0.84-2.03 oz for single shots and 1.69-4.4 oz for double shots. Refer to the full user manual for detailed instructions on programming custom volumes.
5.2 Milk Frothing
The powerful steam wand allows you to create silky smooth microfoam for lattes and cappuccinos.

Image 5.3: Using the powerful steam wand for milk frothing.
Frothing Steps:
- Prepare for Steam: Ensure the machine is powered on and the steam indicator light is solid, indicating it has reached frothing temperature (approx. 212°F).
- Purge Steam Wand: Briefly open the steam knob to release any condensed water from the wand into a separate container. Close the knob.
- Position Milk Pitcher: Fill a stainless steel milk pitcher with cold milk (whole milk is recommended for best results). Submerge the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of the milk.
- Start Frothing: Slowly open the steam knob. Angle the pitcher slightly to create a swirling motion in the milk. Keep the wand tip near the surface to incorporate air for foam, then lower it deeper to heat the milk.
- Monitor Temperature: Continue frothing until the milk reaches the desired temperature (typically 140-150°F or when the pitcher is too hot to comfortably hold).
- Clean Wand: Immediately after frothing, close the steam knob, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth, and briefly purge steam again to clear any milk residue.

5.3 Hot Water Function
The steam wand can also dispense hot water for various uses:
- Preparing Americanos.
- Making hot beverages like tea.
- Preparing instant soups.
- Warming espresso cups before brewing.
To dispense hot water, ensure the machine is heated, place a cup under the steam wand, and slowly open the steam knob. Close the knob when the desired amount of hot water is dispensed.
5.4 Cup Warming Plate
The top surface of the machine features a cup warming plate. Place your espresso cups here to pre-heat them, which helps maintain the temperature of your brewed coffee.
6. Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your espresso machine.
6.1 Daily Cleaning
- Drip Tray: The removable drip tray should be emptied and cleaned daily to prevent overflow and bacterial growth. Wash with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
- Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove the spent coffee grounds. Rinse the portafilter and filter baskets under hot water. Use the cleaning pin to clear any clogged holes in the filter basket.
- Steam Wand: Always wipe the steam wand immediately after frothing milk and purge steam briefly to clear internal residue. The froth nozzle is removable for deeper cleaning.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.

Image 6.1: Removable components like the drip tray and water tank facilitate easy cleaning.
6.2 Descaling
Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) can build up inside the machine, affecting performance and taste. Descale your machine regularly, depending on water hardness and usage (e.g., every 2-3 months).
- Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions (or use a mixture of white vinegar and water).
- Fill the water tank with the descaling solution.
- Place a large container under the group head and steam wand.
- Run half of the solution through the group head by pressing the double shot button.
- Run the remaining half of the solution through the steam wand.
- Rinse the water tank and fill it with fresh water. Run several full tanks of fresh water through both the group head and steam wand to thoroughly rinse the machine.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Gevi Espresso Machine.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No coffee dispenses / Slow flow | Coffee grounds too fine or tamped too hard; filter basket clogged; machine needs descaling. | Adjust grind size or tamping pressure. Clean filter basket. Descale the machine. |
| Coffee flows too fast / Weak espresso | Coffee grounds too coarse or not enough coffee; tamped too lightly. | Adjust grind size to be finer. Use more coffee. Tamp more firmly. |
| Steam wand not producing steam / weak steam | Steam wand clogged; machine not at steam temperature; water tank empty. | Clean steam wand with cleaning pin. Wait for steam indicator light to be solid. Refill water tank. |
| Machine overheats after frothing | Normal operation; machine needs to cool down before brewing espresso. | After frothing, if brewing espresso immediately, release some hot water from the steam wand until the brewing indicator light stops flashing, indicating the temperature has returned to optimal brewing range. |
| Water left in filter basket after brewing | Common with some pump espresso machines; can be related to grind or dose. | Ensure proper grind size and tamping. This may not indicate a malfunction if coffee is extracted correctly. |
| Cup does not fit under portafilter | Cup is too tall. | Remove the removable drip tray to create more clearance for taller cups. |
