2. Safety Information

Please read all instructions carefully before installation and operation. Failure to follow these instructions may result in property damage, personal injury, or death.

  • Electrical Safety: Ensure the power supply matches the product's requirements (110V). Always disconnect power before performing any maintenance or service. Installation must comply with local electrical codes.
  • Plumbing Safety: All plumbing connections must be watertight to prevent leaks. Ensure proper ventilation for the macerator unit.
  • Personal Safety: Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during installation and maintenance, including gloves and eye protection.
  • Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the unit during operation and maintenance.
  • Hazardous Materials: Do not dispose of flammable liquids, corrosive chemicals, or foreign objects (e.g., sanitary products, wipes, large food scraps) into the toilet, as this can damage the macerator pump and void the warranty.
  • Professional Installation: If you are unsure about any part of the installation or maintenance process, consult a qualified plumber or electrician.

4. Setup and Installation

The Flodream macerating toilet system can be installed in various locations, including basements, attics, or extensions, as long as an electrical outlet and discharge pipes are available.

Examples of macerating pump applications in various household settings

Figure 4.1: Versatile Applications. This image illustrates how the macerating pump can be used to connect to a sink, toilet, bathtub, and kitchen appliances, enabling a full bathroom or utility area setup in various locations.

4.1 Pre-Installation Checklist:

  • Verify all components are present and undamaged.
  • Ensure a dedicated 110V electrical outlet is available near the installation site.
  • Confirm access to a water supply line.
  • Plan the discharge pipe route, considering the maximum vertical (29.8 ft) and horizontal (328 ft) pumping capabilities.
  • Ensure adequate space for the toilet and macerator unit, allowing for future access for maintenance.

4.2 Installation Steps:

  1. Positioning the Macerator: Place the macerator pump unit behind or adjacent to the toilet. Ensure it is on a stable, level surface.
  2. Connecting the Toilet: Connect the toilet outlet to the macerator pump's toilet inlet using the provided connection pipe and clamps. Ensure a secure, watertight seal.
  3. Connecting Other Fixtures (Optional): If connecting a sink, shower, or other fixtures, use the appropriate inlets on the macerator unit. Ensure all connections are properly sealed with non-return valves where necessary.
  4. Discharge Pipe Installation: Connect the discharge pipe from the macerator's multi-size sewage outlet to the main sewer line or septic system. Use the provided elbow with check valve to prevent backflow. Ensure the discharge pipe has a continuous downward slope after any vertical lift.
  5. Ventilation: Connect the macerator's vent to an existing vent stack or install a new air admittance valve (AAV) according to local plumbing codes. This is crucial for proper operation and odor control.
  6. Water Supply: Connect the toilet's water supply line to a cold water source.
  7. Electrical Connection: Plug the macerator pump into a dedicated 110V grounded electrical outlet. Avoid using extension cords.
  8. Testing: Once all connections are secure, turn on the water supply and electrical power. Perform several test flushes to check for leaks and proper operation of the macerator pump.

Important: Always consult local plumbing and electrical codes before installation. If you are not confident in your ability to install the system, seek professional assistance.

5. Operating Instructions

The Flodream macerating toilet system is designed for simple and efficient operation.

Figure 5.2: No-Stains Ever Clean. This image visually represents the toilet's ability to clean the bowl thoroughly with every flush, preventing stains and maintaining hygiene.

5.1 Flushing the Toilet:

  • The toilet features a dual-flush mechanism. Use the appropriate flush button for liquid waste (smaller flush) or solid waste (larger flush) to conserve water.
  • Upon flushing, the macerator pump will activate automatically, grinding waste and pumping it through the discharge pipe. The operation is designed to be quiet.

5.2 Connecting Other Appliances:

  • If other fixtures (sink, shower, etc.) are connected to the macerator, their wastewater will also be pumped away when they are used.
  • Ensure that only wastewater from approved fixtures is directed to the macerator.

5.3 Emergency Switch:

  • The macerator unit is equipped with an emergency switch (refer to Figure 3.1). In case of a malfunction or if the unit needs to be manually stopped, use this switch to cut power to the pump. Always disconnect from the main power supply for any service.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your Flodream macerating toilet system.

6.1 Routine Cleaning:

  • Clean the toilet bowl regularly using standard toilet bowl cleaners. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the nano-glazed surface or internal components.
  • For the macerator unit, ensure the exterior is kept clean and free from debris.

6.2 Activated Carbon Replacement:

  • The macerator unit includes a vent where activated carbon powder can be placed to neutralize odors (refer to Figure 3.1).
  • Replace the activated carbon periodically, typically every 3-6 months, or if odors become noticeable.
  • To replace, carefully open the vent cover, remove the old carbon, and pour in new activated carbon powder.

6.3 Blade Inspection (Professional Recommended):

  • While the stainless steel blades are designed for durability, occasional inspection can prevent issues. This procedure should ideally be performed by a qualified technician.
  • Before inspection: Always disconnect the power supply to the macerator unit.
  • Access the macerator chamber (refer to service manual or professional guidance) to check for any foreign objects or excessive wear on the blades.

6.4 Winterization (If Applicable):

  • If the system is installed in an unheated area subject to freezing temperatures, it must be winterized.
  • Drain all water from the toilet bowl, tank, and macerator unit.
  • Add non-toxic RV antifreeze to the system to prevent freezing and damage to pipes and components.
