2. Safety Information
Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury, damage to the generator, or property damage.
- Carbon Monoxide Hazard: Never operate the generator indoors or in enclosed spaces. Exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas that can cause death.
- Fire Hazard: Gasoline is highly flammable. Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool. Do not smoke or allow open flames near the generator.
- Electrical Shock Hazard: Do not operate the generator in wet conditions. Ensure all electrical connections are secure and dry. Ground the generator properly.
- Hot Surfaces: The engine and muffler become very hot during operation and remain hot for some time after shutdown. Avoid contact to prevent burns.
- Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the generator, especially during operation.
- Read the Manual: Familiarize yourself with all controls and safety decals before operating the generator.
3. Setup and Initial Preparation
3.1 Unpacking and Included Components
Carefully unpack the generator and check for any damage. Ensure all components are present:
- K&S Könner&Söhnen KS 4500i Inverter Generator
- User Manual
- Spark Plug Wrench
- PH2 6.0 mm Screwdriver
- Oil Filling Funnel
- Accessory Bag
3.2 Adding Engine Oil
The generator is shipped without engine oil. It is crucial to add the correct amount and type of oil before the first start-up.
- Place the generator on a level surface.
- Locate the oil fill cap/dipstick.
- Remove the cap and use the provided funnel to add 0.6 liters of recommended engine oil (e.g., SAE 10W-30).
- Check the oil level with the dipstick; it should be at the upper mark.
- Securely replace the oil fill cap.

3.3 Adding Fuel
Use only unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 90 or higher.
- Ensure the generator is off and cool.
- Open the fuel tank cap.
- Slowly pour gasoline into the tank, up to the fill limit (13 liters capacity). Do not overfill.
- Securely close the fuel tank cap.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Starting the Generator
- Ensure the generator is on a level, outdoor surface, away from windows and vents.
- Turn the fuel valve to the "ON" position.
- If the engine is cold, move the choke lever to the "CHOKE" position.
- Turn the engine switch to the "ON" position.
- Pull the recoil starter handle firmly until the engine starts.
- Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke lever to the "RUN" position.
4.2 Connecting Electrical Devices
The KS 4500i provides two 230V Schuko sockets, a 12V DC output, and USB QC 3.0 / Type-C ports. Its inverter technology ensures a pure sine wave output, making it safe for sensitive electronics.
- Ensure the generator is running stably before connecting devices.
- Connect devices to the appropriate outlets. Do not exceed the generator's rated power of 4.2 kW (maximum 4.5 kW).
- The USB QC 3.0 and Type-C ports allow for fast charging of compatible devices.
- In case of overload, the generator may trip its circuit breaker. Press the RESET button on the control panel to restore power after reducing the load.

Figure 4: Key Features of the KS 4500i. This image illustrates the generator's pure sine wave output, 4.5/4.2 kW power capability, and economic mode.
4.3 ECO Mode Operation
The ECO mode feature automatically adjusts the engine speed to match the electrical load, improving fuel efficiency and reducing noise levels.
- To activate ECO mode, switch the ECO mode switch to the "ON" position.
- When the load is low, the engine speed will decrease, saving fuel and extending the generator's run time.
- When a higher load is detected, the engine speed will automatically increase to provide the necessary power.

Figure 5: ECO Mode Benefits. This image highlights the fuel efficiency and extended run time (up to 9-18 hours at 50% load) achieved by using the ECO mode.
4.4 Stopping the Generator
- Disconnect all electrical devices from the generator.
- Turn the engine switch to the "OFF" position.
- Turn the fuel valve to the "OFF" position.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is essential for the longevity and reliable operation of your generator. Always perform maintenance with the engine off and cool.
5.1 Maintenance Schedule
| Item | Before Each Use | Every 20 Hours / Monthly | Every 100 Hours / Annually |
|---|---|---|---|
| Check Engine Oil Level | ✓ | ||
| Clean Air Filter | ✓ | ||
| Change Engine Oil | (First 20 hours only) | ✓ | |
