Instructions for Safe Operation and Maintenance

1. Important Safety Information

Read and understand all safety warnings and instructions before operating this gas pole saw. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury. Keep this manual for future reference.

General Safety Warnings

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear appropriate PPE, including safety glasses or goggles, hearing protection, heavy-duty gloves, and a hard hat. Wear sturdy, non-slip footwear.
  • Work Area Safety: Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Do not operate the pole saw in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Keep bystanders, children, and pets at least 50 feet (15 meters) away from the operating area.
  • Electrical Safety: Avoid contact with power lines. Maintain a safe distance from all electrical wires.
  • Fuel Safety: Handle fuel with extreme care. Fuel is highly flammable. Always refuel outdoors and away from ignition sources. Do not smoke while refueling.
  • Operator Safety: Do not operate the pole saw when tired, under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. Maintain proper footing and balance at all times. Do not overreach.
  • Tool Inspection: Before each use, inspect the pole saw for damaged parts, loose fasteners, or any other condition that may affect its safe operation. Replace damaged parts immediately.
  • Kickback: Be aware of kickback. Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut.

3.2 Fuel Preparation

This pole saw uses a 2-stroke gasoline engine and requires a specific fuel mixture.

  • Fuel Type: Use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 89 or higher.
  • Oil Type: Use high-quality 2-stroke engine oil specifically designed for air-cooled engines.
  • Mixing Ratio: The recommended gasoline/oil mixing ratio is 20-25:1. For example, for 1 liter of gasoline, mix 40-50 ml of 2-stroke oil. Use the provided mixing bottle for accurate measurement.
  • Mixing Procedure:
    1. Pour half the required amount of gasoline into the mixing bottle.
    2. Add the entire amount of 2-stroke oil.
    3. Shake the bottle thoroughly to mix.
    4. Add the remaining gasoline and shake again.
  • Refueling: Always refuel in a well-ventilated area, away from open flames or sparks. Ensure the engine is off and cool before refueling. Do not overfill the fuel tank (capacity: 1000ml/33.81oz).

4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your pole saw.

4.1 Starting the Engine (Manual Start)

  1. Prime the Carburetor: Press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible in the return line.
  2. Set Choke: Move the choke lever to the "FULL CHOKE" position (cold start). For a warm engine, set to "HALF CHOKE" or "RUN".
  3. Ignition Switch: Ensure the ignition switch is in the "ON" position.
  4. Pull Starter Cord: Place the pole saw on a firm, flat surface. Hold the unit firmly with one hand and pull the starter cord slowly until resistance is felt, then pull sharply and quickly. Repeat until the engine attempts to start or fires once.
  5. Adjust Choke: Once the engine fires or attempts to start, move the choke lever to the "HALF CHOKE" position. Pull the starter cord again until the engine starts.
  6. Warm-up: Allow the engine to run for a few moments to warm up. Move the choke lever to the "RUN" position.

4.2 Cutting Techniques

Always maintain a safe distance from the cutting area and ensure stable footing.

  • Pre-Inspection: Before cutting, inspect the branch for stability, direction of fall, and potential hazards. Clear the area below the branch.
  • Proper Stance: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, maintaining balance. Use the shoulder strap to support the weight of the pole saw.
  • Extend Pole: Adjust the telescopic pole to the desired length, ensuring all locking mechanisms are secure. Do not overextend beyond the recommended limits.
  • Cutting Position: Position the saw head below the branch you intend to cut. Avoid cutting directly overhead. Always cut from the underside first to prevent pinching, then finish from the top.
  • Maintain Chain Speed: Engage the throttle fully before making contact with the branch to ensure the chain is at full speed.
  • Avoid Kickback: Be aware of the kickback zone (the tip of the guide bar). Avoid contact with this area.
  • Clear Debris: After each cut, clear fallen branches and debris from the work area before proceeding.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your pole saw.

5.1 Daily Maintenance

  • Clean Air Filter: Remove and clean the air filter. A dirty air filter can reduce engine performance.
  • Inspect Chain: Check the saw chain for sharpness, tension, and damage. Sharpen or replace as needed. Ensure proper chain lubrication.
  • Check Guide Bar: Inspect the guide bar for wear or damage. Ensure the oil hole is clear.
  • Tighten Fasteners: Check all nuts, bolts, and screws for tightness. Tighten any loose fasteners.
  • Clean Unit: Wipe down the entire unit to remove sawdust, sap, and debris.

5.2 Periodic Maintenance

  • Spark Plug: Inspect and clean the spark plug every 25 hours of operation. Replace if electrodes are worn or fouled.
  • Fuel Filter: Replace the fuel filter annually or if fuel delivery issues occur.
  • Carburetor Adjustment: If the engine runs poorly, the carburetor may need adjustment. This should ideally be performed by a qualified service technician.
  • Storage: For long-term storage, drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor. Clean the unit thoroughly and store in a dry, secure location.
