3. Setup and Assembly

  1. Align the battery with the battery compartment on the pole saw handle.
  2. Slide the battery into the compartment until it clicks securely into place.
  3. To charge, connect the 65W fast charger to a power outlet and then to the battery. The LED indicator on the battery will show charging status. A full charge typically takes 1 hour.

3.2 Pole Assembly and Extension

The pole saw features an extendable pole for reaching various heights.

  1. Ensure the pole sections are clean and free of debris.
  2. Loosen the locking collars on the pole sections.
  3. Extend the pole to the desired length, ranging from 7.7 feet to 11.5 feet.
  4. Securely tighten the locking collars to prevent the pole from retracting during use.

3.3 Chain Tensioning

Proper chain tension is crucial for safe and efficient operation. The LiTHELi U20 features a tool-less chain tensioning system.

  1. Ensure the pole saw is turned off and the battery is removed.
  2. Locate the tensioning knob on the side of the saw head.
  3. Rotate the knob to adjust the chain tension. The chain should be snug against the guide bar but still able to be pulled freely by hand. There should be no excessive slack.
  4. Avoid over-tightening, as this can cause premature wear to the chain and bar.

3.4 Oiling the Chain

The pole saw is equipped with an automatic chain lubrication system to ensure smooth operation and extend chain life. The oil reservoir has a 140ml capacity.

  1. Ensure the pole saw is turned off and the battery is removed.
  2. Locate the oil reservoir cap on the saw head.
  3. Unscrew the cap and fill the reservoir with appropriate bar and chain oil. Do not overfill.
  4. Replace the cap securely.
  5. Regularly check the oil level during operation and refill as needed.

4. Operation

4.1 Safety Precautions Before Operation

  • Always wear safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection. A hard hat is recommended for overhead work.
  • Ensure the work area is clear of bystanders, pets, and obstacles.
  • Inspect the pole saw for any damage, loose parts, or proper chain tension and oil level before each use.
  • Do not operate the pole saw in wet conditions or near power lines.
  • Maintain a firm grip on the pole saw with both hands.

4.2 Starting and Stopping the Pole Saw

The LiTHELi U20 features a dual interlock switch for safe operation.

  1. To Start: With the battery installed, simultaneously press the safety lock button and squeeze the trigger. The chain will begin to move.
  2. To Stop: Release the trigger. The chain will stop. Always remove the battery when not in use or before performing any adjustments or maintenance.

4.3 Cutting Techniques

For optimal cutting performance and safety, follow these guidelines:

  • Plan your cuts to ensure the branch falls safely and does not strike you or the pole saw.
  • Begin with smaller branches before attempting larger ones. The 8-inch bar can cut branches up to 8 inches thick.
  • Make a relief cut on the underside of a branch before cutting from the top to prevent bark stripping.
  • Allow the saw to do the work; do not force it. Apply light, steady pressure.
  • Be aware of potential kickback, especially when the tip of the guide bar contacts an object.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your pole saw.

5.1 Cleaning

  • After each use, remove the battery and clean the saw head, guide bar, and chain.
  • Use a brush or compressed air to remove sawdust, debris, and oil residue.
  • Wipe down all surfaces with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals.

5.2 Chain Care

  • Sharpening: A dull chain will reduce cutting efficiency and increase strain on the motor. Sharpen the chain regularly or have it professionally sharpened.
  • Replacement: Replace the chain if it is damaged, excessively worn, or cannot be sharpened effectively. Refer to the specifications for the correct replacement chain type.

5.3 Storage

  • Store the pole saw in a dry, secure location, out of reach of children.
  • Ensure the chain cover is in place to protect the chain and prevent accidental contact.
  • Remove the battery before long-term storage.
