3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Power On/Off
Press and hold the power button (usually located on the side or top) for a few seconds to turn the device on or off. The OLED screen will illuminate upon power-on.
3.2 Light Meter Function
Once powered on, the device defaults to light metering mode. Point the meter towards your subject. The 0.96″ OLED screen will display recommended shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and EV values. The Pro version utilizes a 7° spot metering angle, allowing for precise readings of specific areas within your scene. Adjust your camera settings according to the displayed values for optimal exposure.

3.3 Laser Distance Measure Function
To activate the laser rangefinder, press the dedicated laser button. A red laser dot will project from the device. Point the laser at your subject to measure the distance. The OLED screen will display the measured distance in meters or feet. The continuous-on laser mode assists in achieving precise focus, especially in challenging low-light environments. For accurate focus with rangefinder cameras, align the laser dot with the camera's rangefinder patch until the images overlap.

3.4 Mode Selection and Adjustments
The device features an intuitive mode dial and a one-button multi-mode design for quick adjustments. Refer to the on-screen prompts or the full digital manual for detailed instructions on changing settings such as ISO, shutter speed priority, or aperture priority modes, and switching between metric and imperial distance units.
4. Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning
Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to clean the device's exterior. For the OLED screen and laser lens, use a microfiber cloth specifically designed for optics. Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the finish or optical components.
4.2 Charging the Battery
The CHI L.D. Light Meter Pro is equipped with a 370mAh rechargeable battery. When the battery indicator on the OLED screen shows low power, connect the device to a USB power source using the provided USB-C cable. A full charge typically takes a few hours. Avoid overcharging the battery for extended periods.
4.3 Storage
When not in use for extended periods, store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. It is recommended to charge the battery periodically (e.g., every 3-6 months) to maintain battery health.
5. Troubleshooting
5.1 Device Not Powering On
- Ensure the battery is charged. Connect the device to a USB-C charger and wait for at least 15 minutes before attempting to power on again.
- Verify that the power button is being pressed and held for the required duration (typically 2-3 seconds).
5.2 Inaccurate Light Readings
- Check for any obstructions on the light sensor. Clean the sensor area with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Ensure the correct ISO setting is selected on the device to match your film.
- Confirm that the metering mode (e.g., spot metering) is appropriate for your scene.
5.3 Laser Rangefinder Not Working
- Ensure the laser function is activated.
- Check for any obstructions on the laser emitter or receiver. Clean these areas if necessary.
- The laser may have difficulty measuring distances to highly reflective or transparent surfaces. Try aiming at a different target.
5.4 Screen Not Displaying Correctly
- If the screen is dim or flickering, the battery might be low. Recharge the device.
- If the screen is unresponsive, try restarting the device.
