Operating the Ball Head

1. Ball Lock Knob

The large main knob controls the movement of the ball. Turn it counter-clockwise to loosen the ball for repositioning your camera. Turn it clockwise to lock the ball securely in place. Always ensure the ball is fully locked before leaving your camera unattended.

2. Friction Control Knob

The smaller knob adjacent to the main ball lock knob adjusts the friction of the ball movement. This allows you to set a desired tension, preventing your camera from flopping over when the main lock is loosened. Turn clockwise to increase friction, counter-clockwise to decrease it. Adjust this based on the weight of your camera setup.

3. Base Panning Lock Knob

Located at the very bottom of the ball head, this knob controls the 360° rotation of the entire ball head base. Loosen it to pan the camera horizontally for panoramic shots. Tighten it to lock the base in position.

4. Clamp Panning Lock Knob

The NBBH3 features an additional 360° panning mechanism directly under the quick release clamp. This allows for precise adjustments without disturbing the main ball head position. Loosen this knob to rotate the clamp independently, and tighten to lock it.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the ball head with a soft, dry cloth after each use to remove dust and dirt. For stubborn grime, use a slightly damp cloth and then dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Lubrication: The internal mechanisms are designed for long-term, maintenance-free operation. Do not attempt to lubricate the ball or other internal parts, as this can attract dust and degrade performance.
  • Storage: Store the ball head in a clean, dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Inspection: Periodically check all screws and knobs to ensure they are tight. Do not overtighten.

Troubleshooting

  • Camera not secure on quick release plate: Ensure the 1/4"-20 screw is fully tightened into the camera's tripod socket. Check that the quick release plate is flush against the camera body.
  • Quick release plate not secure in clamp: Make sure the quick release clamp knob is fully tightened. Verify that the plate is correctly seated within the clamp's grooves.
  • Ball head movement is too loose or too stiff: Adjust the friction control knob to achieve the desired tension. If the ball head is completely locked, loosen the main ball lock knob.
  • Panning is not smooth: Ensure the base panning lock knob or clamp panning lock knob (depending on which panning mechanism you are using) is sufficiently loosened. Clean any dust or debris from the panning mechanism if necessary.
  • Unusual noises during operation: Stop use immediately and inspect the ball head for any loose parts or damage. Contact customer support if the issue persists.
