Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper installation of the FD-M300 Front Derailleur.

1. Mounting the Derailleur

The FD-M300 is designed for seat tubes with diameters ranging from 28.6mm to 34.9mm. It features a dual-pull design, allowing the cable to be routed from either the top or bottom.

  1. Loosen the derailleur clamp bolt.
  2. Position the derailleur on the seat tube so that the outer cage plate is directly above and parallel to the largest chainring, with a gap of 1-3mm between the bottom of the outer cage plate and the top of the largest chainring teeth.
  3. Ensure the derailleur cage is parallel to the chainrings.
  4. Tighten the clamp bolt securely. Refer to your bicycle's specifications for torque values.

2. Cable Routing and Attachment

Route the shift cable from your shifter to the derailleur. The FD-M300 supports both top-pull and bottom-pull cable routing.

  1. Shift the front shifter to the lowest gear (smallest chainring position).
  2. Pull the shift cable taut and secure it to the derailleur's cable fixing bolt. Do not overtighten.

3. Limit Screw Adjustment

The limit screws prevent the chain from shifting off the chainrings. There are two screws: 'L' for the low gear (smallest chainring) and 'H' for the high gear (largest chainring).

  1. Low Limit (L) Screw: Shift the rear derailleur to the largest cog and the front derailleur to the smallest chainring. Adjust the 'L' screw so that the inner cage plate is as close as possible to the chain without rubbing.
  2. High Limit (H) Screw: Shift the rear derailleur to the smallest cog and the front derailleur to the largest chainring. Adjust the 'H' screw so that the outer cage plate is as close as possible to the chain without rubbing.

4. Cable Tension Adjustment

Fine-tune the cable tension using the barrel adjuster on your shifter or inline on the cable housing. Shift through all front gears to ensure smooth and precise operation without chain rub in any gear combination.

Operating Instructions

The Jstpure FD-M300 Front Derailleur is designed for 3x7 speed systems, allowing you to select from three front chainrings to optimize your pedaling efficiency for various terrains.

  • Shifting Up (Larger Chainring): Push the shifter lever to move the chain to a larger chainring. This provides a harder gear, suitable for higher speeds or downhill riding.
  • Shifting Down (Smaller Chainring): Push the release lever to move the chain to a smaller chainring. This provides an easier gear, suitable for climbing or starting from a stop.
  • Always pedal lightly when shifting to ensure smooth transitions and prevent damage to the drivetrain components.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance will prolong the life and performance of your front derailleur.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the derailleur cage, pivots, and springs with a degreaser and brush. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  • Lubrication: Apply a small amount of bicycle-specific lubricant to the pivot points of the derailleur after cleaning. Avoid over-lubricating, as this can attract dirt.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the derailleur for any signs of damage, wear, or loose bolts. Check the shift cable for fraying or corrosion. Replace worn or damaged parts immediately.

Troubleshooting

Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter with your front derailleur.
