Setup
Battery Installation:
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the meter.
- Use a screwdriver to open the battery compartment.
- Insert the two AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+ and -).
- Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.
Connecting Test Leads:
For voltage, resistance, continuity, diode, capacitance, and temperature measurements, connect the test leads as follows:
- Insert the red test lead into the "VΩHz" input terminal.
- Insert the black test lead into the "COM" (common) input terminal.
- For temperature measurements, connect the temperature probe to the appropriate terminals as indicated on the meter or in the specific operating section.
Operating Instructions
Turn the rotary switch to the desired function. The meter will automatically select the appropriate range for most measurements (auto-ranging). Use the "SEL" button to switch between functions within a single rotary switch position (e.g., AC/DC voltage, resistance/diode/continuity).
1. AC/DC Current Measurement (Clamp Function):
- Rotate the switch to the "600A AC/DC" position.
- Press the trigger to open the clamp jaws.
- Enclose only one conductor (wire) within the clamp jaws. Ensure the jaws are fully closed.
- Read the current value on the display. Use the "SEL" button to switch between AC and DC current if necessary.
2. AC/DC Voltage Measurement:
- Connect the test leads as described in the "Connecting Test Leads" section.
- Rotate the switch to the "V" position.
- Use the "SEL" button to select between AC (~) and DC (---) voltage.
- Touch the test probes to the circuit points where voltage is to be measured.
- Read the voltage value on the display.
3. Resistance Measurement:
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized before measuring resistance.
- Connect the test leads.
- Rotate the switch to the "Ω" position.
- Touch the test probes across the component or circuit to be measured.
- Read the resistance value on the display.
4. Continuity Test:
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized.
- Connect the test leads.
- Rotate the switch to the "Ω" position and press "SEL" until the continuity symbol (speaker icon) appears.
- Touch the test probes across the circuit or component. An audible beep indicates continuity (low resistance).
5. Diode Test:
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized.
- Connect the test leads.
- Rotate the switch to the "Ω" position and press "SEL" until the diode symbol appears.
- Touch the red probe to the anode and the black probe to the cathode of the diode. A forward voltage drop will be displayed. Reverse the probes; an open circuit (OL) should be displayed.
6. Capacitance Measurement:
- Ensure the capacitor is fully discharged before measurement.
- Connect the test leads.
- Rotate the switch to the "Capacitance" position (often shared with other functions, use "SEL" to select).
- Touch the test probes to the capacitor terminals.
- Read the capacitance value on the display.
7. Temperature Measurement:
- Connect the temperature probe to the input terminals (usually VΩHz and COM, or dedicated temperature inputs if available).
- Rotate the switch to the "°C/°F" position.
- Use the "SEL" button to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
- Place the tip of the temperature probe on the object or in the environment to be measured.
- Read the temperature value on the display.
8. Frequency Measurement:
- Connect the test leads.
- Rotate the switch to the "Hz" position (often shared with voltage or current, use "SEL" to select).
- Touch the test probes to the circuit where frequency is to be measured.
- Read the frequency value on the display.
9. Non-Contact Voltage (NCV) Detection:
- Rotate the switch to the "NCV" position.
- Move the NCV sensor (located at the top of the clamp meter) close to the conductor or outlet.
- The meter will emit an audible beep and/or a warning light will illuminate when AC voltage is detected.
10. Flashlight:
Press the "HOLD/Flashlight" button briefly to turn the flashlight on or off. This is useful for illuminating dark work areas.
11. Data Hold:
Press and hold the "HOLD/Flashlight" button to activate the data hold function. The current reading will be frozen on the display. Press again to release.
Maintenance
Cleaning:
Wipe the meter's case with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the meter is completely dry before use.
Battery Replacement:
When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries immediately to ensure accurate readings. Refer to the "Battery Installation" section under Setup for instructions.
Storage:
If the meter is not used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the meter in its protective case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
