  • Seat Height: Loosen the quick-release lever or bolt on the seat post. Adjust the saddle height so the rider can comfortably touch the ground with their toes. For the 18-inch model, the saddle adjusts from 22.5" to 26". Securely tighten the lever/bolt after adjustment.
  • Handlebar Height: Loosen the stem bolt. Adjust the handlebar height to a comfortable position for the rider, typically between 32.5" and 34" for the 18-inch model. Ensure the handlebar is aligned straight with the front wheel before tightening the stem bolt securely.

5.2. Braking System

Your COSTWAY Kids Bicycle features a dual braking system for reliable stopping power.

  • Handbrake: The handbrake lever on the handlebar controls the front wheel's clamp brake. It is designed for smaller hands. Squeeze the lever gently to slow down or stop.
  • Coaster Brake: The coaster brake is activated by pedaling backward. This provides an intuitive stopping method, especially for beginners.
  • Chain Guard: The fully enclosed chain guard protects the chain from debris and prevents clothing from getting caught.

5.3. Training Wheels

Training wheels provide stability for new riders and can be removed as skills develop.

  • Using Training Wheels: Ensure training wheels are securely attached and provide a stable base. They should be slightly off the ground when the bike is upright, allowing the rider to lean slightly.
  • Removing Training Wheels: As the child gains confidence and balance, the training wheels can be removed. Loosen the nuts holding them to the rear axle and detach. Store them safely for future use or other riders.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the bicycle remains safe and performs optimally.

  • Cleaning: Clean the bicycle regularly with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid high-pressure water sprays directly on bearings or electrical components.
  • Lubrication: Periodically lubricate the chain with bicycle-specific chain lubricant. Apply sparingly and wipe off excess.
  • Tire Pressure: Check tire pressure before each ride. Maintain pressure within the range indicated on the tire sidewall.
  • Brake Adjustment: Ensure brake levers are easy to reach and activate. Adjust brake cables if the brakes feel too loose or too tight. Consult a bicycle mechanic if unsure.
  • Bolt and Nut Checks: Regularly inspect all bolts, nuts, and quick-release levers for tightness. Tighten any loose fasteners.
  • Tire Inspection: Inspect tires for wear, cuts, or embedded objects. Replace worn or damaged tires.

7. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter.

  • Brakes not engaging effectively: Check brake cable tension. Adjust if too loose. Ensure brake pads are making full contact with the rim.
  • Tires losing air quickly: Inspect tires for punctures. Check valve stem for leaks. Inflate to recommended pressure.
  • Wobbly wheels: Check if axle nuts are securely tightened. If the wheel itself is bent, professional repair may be needed.
  • Chain slipping or noisy: Check chain for proper tension and lubrication. Ensure chain is clean and free of debris.
  • Pedals difficult to turn: Check if pedals are securely tightened. Ensure no debris is obstructing the pedal mechanism.

For issues not listed here or if you are unable to resolve a problem, please contact customer support or a qualified bicycle mechanic.
