4. Setup and Installation

The installation of a mini split system involves electrical, refrigerant, and structural considerations. It is strongly recommended that installation be performed by a qualified HVAC professional.

Key Installation Steps (Overview)

  1. Site Selection: Choose appropriate locations for both the indoor and outdoor units, considering airflow, noise, and accessibility for maintenance.
  2. Mounting the Indoor Unit: Securely attach the mounting plate to a sturdy wall, ensuring it is level.
  3. Drilling the Wall Hole: Create a hole through the wall for the refrigerant lines, drain hose, and electrical cables.
  4. Connecting Piping and Wiring: Connect the refrigerant lines, drain hose, and electrical wiring between the indoor and outdoor units.
  5. Vacuuming the Lines: Evacuate the air and moisture from the refrigerant lines using a vacuum pump. This is a critical step for system efficiency and longevity.
  6. Releasing Refrigerant: Open the valves on the outdoor unit to release the pre-charged refrigerant into the system.
  7. Mounting the Outdoor Unit: Place the outdoor unit on a stable, level surface or a dedicated mounting pad, using the vibration absorber feet.
  8. Electrical Connection: Connect the unit to the dedicated 230V power supply.

6. Maintenance

Filter Cleaning

  • Clean the air filters of the indoor unit regularly (e.g., every 2-4 weeks, depending on usage).
  • To clean, open the front panel of the indoor unit, remove the filters, and wash them with lukewarm water and mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely before reinserting.

Outdoor Unit Maintenance

  • Periodically clean the outdoor coil with a soft brush or water hose to remove dirt and dust. Ensure power is disconnected before cleaning.
