1. Introduction
The KONNWEI KW460 is a specialized OBD2 diagnostic scanner designed for Mercedes-Benz and Smart vehicles. This tool provides comprehensive system diagnostics, various reset functions, and full OBD2 functionality to assist in identifying and resolving vehicle issues. It is intended for use with gasoline vehicles equipped with 12V batteries. Heavy diesel trucks, electric vehicles, and MPVs are not supported.

2. Setup
2.1 Package Contents
Upon opening the package, verify that all items are present:
- KONNWEI KW460 Diagnostic Tool
- 16-pin OBD2 Cable
- USB Data Cable

2.2 Connecting the Device
To begin using the KW460, connect it to your vehicle's OBD2 port:
- Locate the vehicle's 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC). This port is typically found under the dashboard on the driver's side.
- Ensure the vehicle's ignition is in the OFF position.
- Connect the 16-pin OBD2 cable from the KW460 scanner to the vehicle's DLC. Ensure a secure connection.
- Turn the vehicle's ignition to the ON position (engine off). The scanner will power on automatically.

The device features indicator lights:
- Green LED: Indicates the engine systems are running normally.
- Yellow LED: Indicates a possible problem in one or more of the vehicle's systems.
- Red LED: Indicates a serious problem requiring immediate attention.
3. Operation
3.1 Navigating the Interface
The KW460 features a 2.8-inch color screen and a user-friendly button layout for navigation:
- ESC Button: Returns to the previous screen.
- I/M Button: Provides quick access to I/M readiness status.
- ? (Help) Button: Provides detailed descriptions or tips for diagnoses.
- OK Button: Confirms the current operation or selection.
- Directional Buttons (Up/Down/Left/Right): Used to select different items or navigate through pages.
3.2 Full System Diagnostics
The KW460 can perform comprehensive diagnostics on up to 102 systems within compatible Mercedes-Benz and Smart vehicles. This includes key components such as the engine, transmission, ABS, SAS, SRS, ESP, airbags, immobilizer, and battery systems.

To perform a full system scan:
- From the main menu, select the 'Diagnostics' or 'Full System Scan' option.
- The scanner will automatically identify the vehicle and begin scanning all supported systems.
- Once the scan is complete, a report will display any detected fault codes and system statuses.
- You can then select specific systems to view detailed information or clear fault codes after repairs.
3.3 OBD2 Functions
The KW460 supports all standard OBD2 functions, allowing for basic engine and emission-related diagnostics:

- Read Trouble Codes (DTCs): Displays current, pending, and permanent diagnostic trouble codes.
- Clear Trouble Codes: Erases DTCs from the vehicle's computer after repairs.
- Live Data: Displays real-time data stream from the vehicle's sensors.
- Freeze Frame Data: Shows a snapshot of operating conditions when an emission-related fault occurred.
- I/M Readiness: Checks the status of emission-related monitors to determine if the vehicle is ready for an inspection/maintenance test.
- O2 Sensor Test: Retrieves O2 sensor monitor test results.
- On-Board Monitor Test: Retrieves results for emission-related powertrain components and systems.
- EVAP System Test: Initiates a test of the Evaporative Emission Control System.
- Vehicle Information: Retrieves the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), Calibration ID (CALID), and Calibration Verification Number (CVN).
3.4 One-Click Emission Test (I/M Readiness)
The I/M Readiness function allows for a quick check of your vehicle's exhaust status, indicating if it is ready for an emissions test.

To perform an I/M Readiness test, press the dedicated I/M button on the device. The screen will display the status of various emission monitors.
3.5 Multiple Auto Reset Functions
The KW460 offers several specialized reset functions for common maintenance tasks:

- Oil Reset: Resets the oil service light after an oil change.

- Lamp Adjust: Adjusts lighting parameters.

4. Maintenance
4.1 Software Updates

To update the software:
- Download the update tool from the official KONNWEI website.
- Connect the KW460 to your computer using the provided USB data cable.
- Launch the update tool on your computer.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to check for and install available updates.
4.2 Cleaning
To maintain the device, wipe the screen and exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the device.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your KW460, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Device does not power on: Ensure the OBD2 cable is securely connected to the vehicle's DLC and the vehicle's ignition is in the ON position. Check the vehicle's battery voltage.
- Communication error: Verify the vehicle supports the OBD2 protocol. Ensure the cable connection is stable. Try connecting to a different compatible vehicle if possible to rule out a vehicle-specific issue.
- Screen frozen or unresponsive: Disconnect the device from the vehicle, wait a few seconds, and reconnect it. If the issue persists, perform a software update.
- Incorrect readings or functions not working: Ensure the software is up to date. Verify the vehicle's compatibility with the specific function you are attempting to use.
