Safety Information

WARNING: Ethanol gel fuel is flammable. Use with extreme caution. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

  • Always use chafing dishes on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation in the area of use.
  • Do not move the chafing dish while fuel cans are lit or hot.
  • Never leave lit fuel cans unattended.
  • Keep flammable materials away from the chafing dish.
  • Extinguish fuel cans completely after use.
  • Do not touch hot surfaces. Use appropriate protective gloves if handling hot components.
  • Dispose of used fuel cans and aluminum pans responsibly according to local regulations.

Setup Instructions

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all items from the packaging.
  2. Assemble Wire Rack: Unfold each wire rack and ensure it is stable on a flat, heat-resistant surface. The rack should be fully extended and locked into position.
  3. Place Fuel Cans: Position two Sterno ethanol gel fuel cans securely in the designated holders at the bottom of each wire rack. Do not light them yet.
  4. Add Water Pan: Place one full-size aluminum water pan into each wire rack, directly above the fuel cans.
  5. Add Water: Pour approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) of hot water into the water pan. Using hot water will reduce the time required to heat the food. Do not overfill.
  6. Place Food Pans: Place the half-size aluminum food pans containing your prepared food into the water pan. You can typically fit two half-size food pans per full-size water pan.
  7. Cover Food: Place the lids on the food pans to retain heat and moisture.

Operating Instructions

  1. Light Fuel Cans: Carefully remove the lids from the Sterno ethanol gel fuel cans. Using a long-stem lighter or match, ignite the gel fuel. Ensure the flame is stable.
  2. Monitor Heat: The fuel cans provide a consistent heat output for approximately 2 to 2.25 hours. Monitor the water level in the water pan periodically. If the water level drops significantly, carefully add more hot water.
  3. Serving: Once the food is heated to the desired temperature, guests can serve themselves using the provided utensils. Keep food pans covered when not serving to maintain temperature.
  4. Replacing Fuel Cans: If your event extends beyond the fuel burn time, allow the existing fuel cans to cool completely before attempting to replace them. Use a can opener or similar tool to remove the old cans, then insert new ones and re-ignite.

Maintenance and Storage

  1. Extinguish Fuel: After use, carefully extinguish the fuel cans by placing their lids back on. Allow the cans and all metal components to cool completely before handling.
  2. Dispose of Fuel Cans: Once cooled, dispose of used fuel cans according to local waste disposal guidelines.
  3. Clean Pans and Racks: The aluminum water and food pans are disposable and should be discarded after use. The wire racks can be wiped clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Ensure they are thoroughly dry before storage.
  4. Storage: Fold the wire racks flat for compact storage. Store all components in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
