3.3 Wiring

Connect the sensor to a 10-30V DC power supply and your 485 communication system according to the following wire sequence:

  • Brown: VCC (Power Supply Positive)
  • Black: GND (Ground)
  • Yellow: A (485 Data Line A)
  • Blue: B (485 Data Line B)

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Rain and Snow Detection

The sensor is designed for fast and accurate detection, providing feedback within 0.5 seconds of sensing rain or snow. The detection surface utilizes AC measurement technology to minimize oxidation and maintain long-term accuracy.

4.2 Automatic Heating Function

The module includes an optional automatic heating function. This feature activates in cold and humid conditions (typically when the ambient temperature is below 0℃ for an extended period) to prevent the sensor surface from freezing or accumulating condensation. The heating plate maintains a stable temperature of 40℃ (default) to ensure consistent performance and prevent damage.

4.3 Sensitivity Adjustment

The sensitivity level of the sensor is adjustable via software settings to adapt to different environmental conditions and specific application requirements. Refer to the software documentation for detailed instructions on adjusting sensitivity.

4.4 Communication and Configuration

The sensor communicates via a 485 output signal. Parameter configuration, including sensitivity and alarm/reset delays, is performed through software. The default address for the module is 01, and it supports function codes 03 and 06.

5. Maintenance

The F&Y Rain Snow Sensor Module is designed for low maintenance due to its robust IP68 construction and automatic heating feature. The AC measurement technology helps reduce oxidation on the detection surface, contributing to long-term accuracy.

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the sensor surface for any physical damage or excessive debris accumulation.
  • Cleaning: If necessary, gently clean the detection surface with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals that could damage the sensor.
  • Heating System: The integrated heating system operates automatically to prevent ice and condensation. No user intervention is typically required for this function.

6. Troubleshooting

This section provides general guidance for common issues. For complex problems, consult the manufacturer's technical support.

  • No Detection:
    • Verify power supply (10-30V DC) is correctly connected and active.
    • Check wiring connections (VCC, GND, A, B) for proper polarity and secure contact.
    • Ensure the sensor surface is clean and free from obstructions.
    • Review software settings for sensitivity and ensure it is appropriate for the environment.
  • Incorrect Detection / False Alarms:
    • Adjust sensor sensitivity via software to match environmental conditions.
    • Check for external factors like splashing water or debris that might trigger false readings.
    • Verify installation angle (15 degrees) to ensure proper water runoff.
  • Heating Function Not Working:
    • Ensure ambient temperature is low enough to trigger the heating function (typically below 0℃).
    • Confirm power supply is stable and sufficient.
    • If the issue persists, contact technical support.
  • Communication Issues (485 Output):
    • Verify 485 wiring (A and B lines) for correct connection and polarity.
    • Check the communication parameters in your software, including baud rate, parity, and stop bits.
    • Ensure the sensor's default address (01) matches the address being polled by your system.
