- One Coiiwsei RTH701 Thermostat
- One Wall Plate
- One Instruction Manual
- One Set of Wiring Labels
- One Set of Screws
2.2 Pre-Installation Checklist
- Turn off power: Before starting, ensure the power to your heating/cooling system is turned off at the main breaker or fuse box to prevent electrical shock.
- Verify compatibility: Confirm your HVAC system is compatible with the RTH701 thermostat (refer to Section 1.1).
- Gather tools: You will need a screwdriver (Phillips head), wire strippers (if wires are not pre-stripped), and possibly a drill.
2.3 Removing Your Old Thermostat
- Remove the cover of your old thermostat.
- Take a picture of the wiring connections for reference.
- Label each wire with the provided wiring labels according to its terminal designation (e.g., R, C, Y, W, G).
- Disconnect the wires and remove the old thermostat's wall plate.
2.4 Mounting the New Thermostat
- Position the new wall plate against the wall where the old thermostat was located.
- Mark the screw holes. If new holes are needed, drill pilot holes.
- Secure the wall plate to the wall using the provided screws.
2.5 Wiring Connections
Connect the labeled wires to the corresponding terminals on the new thermostat's wall plate. Ensure connections are secure.

Note: 4 wires must be connected for use. If only 2 wires, batteries must be used. Remove metal jumper wire if you have both RH/R and RC wires.
Terminal Designations:
- C: Common 24VAC transformer (system power supply)
- O: Reversing valve cool (for heat pump systems)
- B: Reversing valve heat (for heat pump systems)
- W: Heat relay
- RH: 24VAC (system power supply) - Heat
- RC: 24VAC (system power supply) - Cool
- G: Fan relay
- Y: Cool relay
Note: If your system has separate RH and RC wires, remove the metal jumper wire connecting them on the thermostat. If you only have one R wire, connect it to RH and leave the jumper in place.
2.6 Electric or Gas Switch Setting
Locate the Electric/Gas switch on the back of the thermostat unit. Set it according to your heating system type:
- If you have an electric furnace, set the switch to ELEC.
- If you have a gas or oil furnace, set the switch to GAS.
2.7 Battery Installation
The thermostat requires 2 AA alkaline batteries (not supplied) for operation or as a backup power source if a C-wire is not available. The front-load battery compartment makes replacement easy.
- Open the battery compartment door located at the bottom front of the thermostat.
- Insert two new AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment door.
Note: When a C-wire is available, the batteries provide a back-up source of power, maintaining settings during a power outage.
2.8 Final Steps
- Carefully align the thermostat unit with the wall plate and snap it into place.
- Restore power to your HVAC system at the main breaker.
3. Operating Instructions
The Coiiwsei RTH701 thermostat features a user-friendly interface with a large, clear LCD display and simple controls.

An illustration of the Coiiwsei RTH701 thermostat highlighting its large display, adjustable up/down buttons, FAN and SYSTEM switches, and the easy-access front-load battery compartment for 2 AA batteries.
3.1 Display Overview
The LCD display shows the current room temperature, the set temperature, and the active system mode (Cool, Off, Heat) and fan mode (On, Auto). The display features a white backlight for easy readability in various lighting conditions.
3.2 Setting the Temperature
Use the large + (Up) and - (Down) buttons on the right side of the thermostat to adjust the desired set temperature. The set temperature range is 44°F to 90°F (7°C to 32°C).
3.3 Fan and System Switches
Two slide switches are located at the top of the thermostat for controlling the fan and system modes:
- FAN Switch:
- ON: The fan runs continuously.
- AUTO: The fan runs only when the heating or cooling system is actively operating.
- SYSTEM Switch:
- COOL: The thermostat controls the cooling system.
- OFF: The heating and cooling systems are turned off.
- HEAT: The thermostat controls the heating system.
3.4 Temperature Unit Conversion (°C/°F)
The thermostat supports displaying temperature in either Fahrenheit (°F) or Celsius (°C). Refer to the full instruction manual for specific steps on how to switch between these units, typically involving a button combination or a switch on the circuit board.
3.5 Compressor Delay Protection
This feature helps protect your compressor from short cycling. It can be selected ON or OFF. When ON, the compressor will delay restarting for a few minutes after it has turned off, preventing potential damage. Refer to the full instruction manual for details on how to enable or disable this feature.
4. Maintenance
4.1 Battery Replacement
When the battery indicator appears on the display, it signifies that the AA batteries are low and should be replaced promptly. Refer to Section 2.7 for battery installation instructions.
4.2 Cleaning the Thermostat
To clean the thermostat, gently wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish or internal components.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Coiiwsei RTH701 thermostat, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Thermostat display is blank | No power (batteries dead or C-wire issue) | Replace AA batteries. Check power at the circuit breaker. Verify C-wire connection if used. |
| Heating/Cooling system not responding | Incorrect wiring, system switch in 'OFF' position, power issue, or compressor delay active. | Check wiring connections (Section 2.5). Ensure system switch is set to 'HEAT' or 'COOL'. Verify power to HVAC unit. Wait for compressor delay to complete. |
| Incorrect temperature reading | Thermostat location, calibration needed. | Ensure thermostat is not exposed to direct sunlight, drafts, or heat sources. Refer to the full manual for temperature display calibration instructions. |
| Fan runs continuously in AUTO mode | Fan switch set to 'ON'. | Set the FAN switch to 'AUTO'. |
If these steps do not resolve the issue, please contact customer support.
