Safety Instructions
Operating a chainsaw can be dangerous if proper safety precautions are not followed. Always prioritize safety to prevent serious injury or death.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear appropriate PPE, including a safety helmet, hearing protection, eye protection (safety glasses), heavy-duty gloves, chainsaw protective trousers, and safety boots.
- Fuel Handling: Handle gasoline with extreme care. Store fuel in approved containers, in a well-ventilated area, away from ignition sources. Never refuel while the engine is running or hot.
- Work Area: Ensure your work area is clear of obstacles, bystanders, and animals. Maintain a firm footing and balance. Do not operate in wet conditions or on slippery surfaces.
- Kickback Prevention: Be aware of kickback, which can occur when the moving chain contacts an object at the upper tip of the guide bar. Always hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands. The chainsaw is equipped with an anti-kickback brake for added safety.
- Vibration Reduction: This chainsaw features anti-vibration equipment to reduce operator fatigue. However, prolonged exposure to vibration can still be harmful. Take regular breaks.
- Maintenance: Regularly inspect the chainsaw for damage, loose parts, or worn components. Ensure the chain brake is functioning correctly before each use.
- First Aid: Keep a first aid kit readily available when operating the chainsaw.

Setup
1. Guide Bar and Chain Installation
- Ensure the chain brake is disengaged.
- Remove the chain cover and clutch cover.
- Place the chain around the clutch drum and guide bar, ensuring the cutting edges face forward on the top of the bar.
- Fit the guide bar onto the studs and align the chain with the groove in the bar.
- Replace the clutch cover and chain cover, hand-tightening the nuts.
- Adjust chain tension: The chain should be snug against the guide bar, but still able to be pulled freely by hand. Tighten the nuts securely.
2. Fuel Mixture Preparation
This chainsaw uses a 2-stroke gasoline engine. Always use a fresh mixture of unleaded gasoline and high-quality 2-stroke engine oil at the ratio specified by the manufacturer (typically 50:1 or 40:1, refer to the engine manual for exact ratio). Use the provided fuel mixing bottle for accurate measurement.
- Fill the mixing bottle with the required amount of gasoline.
- Add the correct amount of 2-stroke oil.
- Securely close the bottle and shake well to mix thoroughly.
3. Filling Fuel and Chain Oil Tanks
- Fuel Tank: Carefully fill the fuel tank with the prepared fuel mixture. Do not overfill. Securely close the fuel cap.
- Chain Oil Tank: Fill the chain oil tank with the provided bio saw chain oil. The tank volume is 0.55 liters. Ensure the oil cap is securely closed. The automatic chain oil system requires sufficient oil for proper lubrication during operation.
4. Battery Charging for Electric Start
Before using the electric start feature, ensure the 20V (2Ah) lithium-ion battery is fully charged using the 2.4A battery charger. The battery status indicator will show the charge level.

Operating Instructions
1. Pre-Operation Check
- Verify chain tension and sharpness.
- Check fuel and chain oil levels.
- Ensure the chain brake is functional.
- Confirm all covers and fasteners are secure.
- Wear all required PPE.
2. Starting the Chainsaw (Dual Start System)
The PPBKS 56 features both a cable starter and an electric start button.
Cable Start:
- Place the chainsaw on a firm, flat surface.
- Engage the chain brake.
- Set the choke (if cold start) and prime the engine as per specific instructions on the unit.
- Hold the chainsaw firmly with one hand on the front handle and pull the starter cord with the other hand until the engine starts.
- Once started, disengage the choke and allow the engine to warm up briefly before disengaging the chain brake.
Electric Start:
- Ensure the 20V battery is inserted and charged.
- Engage the chain brake.
- Press and hold the electric start button until the engine starts.
- Once started, allow the engine to warm up briefly before disengaging the chain brake.

3. Operating the Chainsaw
- Always hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands, wrapping your thumbs around the handles.
- Maintain a stable stance and good balance.
- Engage the chain brake when moving between cuts or if the chain is not actively cutting.
- Allow the chain to reach full speed before beginning a cut.
- Be aware of the cutting direction and potential for kickback.
4. Stopping the Chainsaw
To stop the engine, move the engine stop switch to the "OFF" position. Ensure the chain has come to a complete stop before setting the chainsaw down.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the performance and safety of your chainsaw.
- Chain Sharpening: A sharp chain is essential for safe and efficient cutting. Sharpen the chain regularly or replace it when dull. Follow the manufacturer's guidelines for sharpening angles and file sizes.
- Guide Bar Maintenance: Clean the guide bar groove and oil holes regularly. Flip the guide bar periodically to ensure even wear. Check for burrs on the guide bar rails and file them smooth.
- Air Filter Cleaning: Clean the air filter frequently, especially when working in dusty conditions. A clogged air filter can reduce engine performance.
- Spark Plug Inspection: Inspect the spark plug for wear and proper gap. Replace if necessary.
- Chain Oil System: Regularly check the automatic chain oil system to ensure it is dispensing oil properly. The chain should always have a thin film of oil during operation.
- General Cleaning: After each use, clean the chainsaw thoroughly, removing sawdust, debris, and oil residue.
- Storage: When storing the chainsaw for extended periods, drain the fuel tank and chain oil tank. Clean the unit and store it in a dry, secure location, preferably in its transport bag, away from children and unauthorized users.
Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your chainsaw.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine won't start (Cable Start) | No fuel, incorrect choke setting, fouled spark plug, flooded engine. | Check fuel level and mixture. Adjust choke. Clean/replace spark plug. Clear flooded engine by pulling cord with choke off and throttle open. |
| Engine won't start (Electric Start) | Battery discharged, battery not inserted correctly, electrical connection issue. | Charge battery. Ensure battery is fully seated. Check battery contacts. |
| Chainsaw cuts poorly or vibrates excessively | Dull chain, incorrect chain tension, damaged guide bar. | Sharpen or replace chain. Adjust chain tension. Inspect and replace guide bar if damaged. |
| Chain not oiling | Empty oil tank, clogged oil port, damaged oil pump. | Refill oil tank. Clean oil port. If problem persists, contact service. |
| Engine loses power | Clogged air filter, incorrect fuel mixture, worn spark plug. | Clean air filter. Verify fuel mixture ratio. Replace spark plug. |
